Reassessing 2014 Recruiting

Here are the latest updates on some of the 2014 players that PC is targeting. With the July Live period right around the corner we should be getting a lot more news on these and other PC recruiting targets.
Jalen Lindsey
ESPN Current Ranking: 32
24/7 Current Ranking: 28
Scout Ranking: 25
Rivals Ranking: 30
AAU Team: Southern Stampede
High School: Huntington Prep
Position: Small Forward (Wing) 6-7 180 lbs
Other Schools Involved: Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Duke, and North Carolina among many others.
The Latest: Jalen was at last week’s NBPA Camp with several of the players in the class of 2014. He has stated several times recently that Providence is recruiting him the hardest.
24/7 sports recently listed Providence along with Florida and Tennessee as the three schools out in front on his recruitment. Jalen has recently stated that he will be playing his final year of high school ball at national powerhouse Huntington Prep in West Virginia. The guess here is that Providence is the frontrunner for Lindsey.
Abdul Malik Abu

High School: Kimball Union
Position: Power Forward 6-7 233 lbs
Other Schools Involved: Connecticut, Florida, NC State, Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, Boston College among many others.
The Latest: Abu continues to list Providence as one of the schools recruiting him the hardest, and 24/7 Sports lists PC as one of the frontrunners. He has said that he will be narrowing down his list to a more manageable size after the July open recruiting period. Abu recently stated again that he would like to attend the same college as Jared Terrell, but only if it is the best situation for both. Abu is also at the NBPA Top 100 Camp this week. Things should become clearer on where Providence stands with him at the conclusion of the July open period.
In an article on NY2LA Sports Abu said “I have a good relationship with Ed Cooley—a great one. Providence is good. They’re high up their too.”
Paschal Chukwu

Position: Center 7-1 202 lbs

The Latest: Paschal also attended the NBPA Camp this past weekend where he put on a very nice performance finishing fourth in rebounding at the camp. His recruitment has been more of a mystery than most others.
His support staff has said that he will not wind up going to a “basketball factory” type school and he will be looking for a “close knit, family atmosphere” setting. PC has been recruiting Chukwu from the beginning. He has been to PC games and on campus more than once. As a matter of fact, he just took another unofficial visit to Providence on Wednesday.
24/7 Sports lists Providence as the leader right now. Pascal was recently quoted in an article where he mentioned that PC and UConn are recruiting him the hardest. My guess he is going to become a Friar.

The Latest: Kaleb attended the Addidas Nations Camp this past weekend along with Mass Rivals teammates Matt Cimino and Josh Sharma. Syracuse has really stepped up their recruitment of Kaleb, calling him their “key” recruit. Up until very recently, Syracuse may have been the team to beat. What has changed? Joseph has taken two unofficial visits to Providence in the past week. This bears close watching.
Jared Terrell

Position: Shooting Guard 6-3 205 lbs
Other Schools Involved: Miami, Florida, Kansas, Marquette, Boston College, Cincinnati, Creighton, and others.
The Latest: Jared and Malik Abdul Abu have both restated recently that there is a desire to go to the same school for college, but only if it is the best situation for both of them. In addition to Providence, Kansas has a serious interest in both Terrell and Abu and may be one of the teams to beat for both of their services. Keep an eye on which programs are focussing on their Expressions team during the July live period. This will be a strong indicator of who is still seriously in the running.
Marial Shayok

Position: Small Forward 6-7 205 lbs
Other Schools Involved: Minnesota, Rutgers, Cinn, Georgia, Boston College, Seton Hall among others.
The Latest: Marial, who is from Canada, has been playing for the CIA Bounce AAU team on the EYBL circuit. He had been hoping to make the Canadian U19 National team, but unfortunately did not make the final cut. Zagsblog has recently reported that Marial lists Providence as one of the schools recruiting him the hardest.
Shayok has a world of upside potential and could become a key Friar recruiting target in the 2014 class, depending on what happens with Lindsey.
Quadri Moore

The Latest: It’s difficult to get a great feel for Moore’s recruitment. Recently, Alex Kline has said that Cincinnati and Wake Forest are the two schools being mentioned the most with him the most. He is another player where a lot will be determined during the July live period.
Victor Law

Position: Small Forward 6-7 195 lbs
Other Schools Involved: DePaul, Dayton, VCU, Harvard, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Illinois and others.
The Latest: Victor is one of several players in the 2014 and 2015 classes from Illinois that Providence seems to be concentrating on. Vic appears to still be open in his recruitment. He has already made official visits to VCU, Georgia Tech, and Harvard. Law is one of several top rated small forwards that PC is recruiting in the 2014 class. The key will be to see who gets his other official visits.
Matt Cimino

The Latest: Matt is the classic face-up power forward. He has great range on his outside shot and a very smooth stroke. The other parts of his game are getting better, although he still has to add muscle to his frame. Matt would be a great complement to a recruiting class. It appears many of the higher academic schools will be the ones to beat for his services.
Angel Delgado

The Latest: Angel has burst onto the national recruiting scene this past Spring and Summer with his performance during the EYBL tournaments where he led the entire EYBL in rebounding and is currently thought of as one of the best players in the 2014 class. His recruitment is just picking up steam with his emergence nationally. Here is my recap of Angel from the National Prep Invitational this past February.
Alec Brennan

High School: Milton Academy
Position: Power Forward 6-10 220 lbs
Other Schools Involved: Boston College, Temple, Harvard, Maryland, Boston University, UMass and others.
The Latest: Alec is another prototype face-up power forward with a nice shooting touch. However, Brennan is more athletic than many of those fours. He is going to be recruited by a lot of the high academic, high major schools such as Stanford, Harvard, and Northwestern. I have not heard where his recruitment stands at this point. He is another one to watch during the July Live period to see who is actively interested.
