LaDontae Henton

LaDontae Henton became the first player to commit to Ed Cooley as head coach at Providence in the spring of 2011. When he did the Friars knew they were getting a player who was as productive throughout four years as any in his class.

Henton was an all-state selection four times. He scored over 2,000 points in his career and had back to back seasons in which he averaged over 24 points and 14 rebounds per game. As a senior in high school, Henton averaged over 25 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists 3 blocks and 2 steals.

That production continued into his freshman year at PC, as he was named to the Big East’s All Rookie Team after grabbing eight double doubles, including a 24 point, 15 rebound night versus DePaul.

As a sophomore, Henton averaged 13 points and over 8 rebounds a night, but his shooting percentage from three point range dipped from 39% as a freshman into the 20s as a sophomore.

As a junior, Henton was a key reason why Providence won the Big East Championship. He averaged 14 points and 7.9 rebounds per game and hit perhaps the biggest shot of the 2013-14 season when he knocked down an 18 footer to all but close out the conference title game.

Now a senior, this is Henton’s team, and much like in his high school career, he’ll graduate as one of the most productive players the school as ever seen. He’ll cross the 1,000 rebound mark this year, and with an uptick in scoring, could make a run at 2,000 points.
