Friar Basketball

Jalen Lindsey

Jalen Lindsey was the target of D1 college as early as the 8th grade, when Memphis offered him a scholarship. Few believed the Friars would land the Tennessee native when Ed Cooley visited him on the first day coaches could visit in the fall of 2012, but ten months later Lindsey was committed to PC.

At the time of his commitment Lindsey was ranked 32nd in the class of 2014 by ESPN. He was the Player of the Year in Tennessee in 2013, while winning a pair of state titles and scoring 2,643 at Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA). Lindsey played his first varsity game as a 6’6 8th grader, being coached by long-time mentor and former Vanderbilt star Drew Maddux.

Lindsey spent his final season of high school basketball at a top 10 program nationally in Huntington Prep. Lindsey’s stock dipped a bit during his senior year following a quiet AAU season and a slow start to his time at Huntington, as he shook off an ankle injury that caused him to miss six games. He still finished with a composite national ranking of 73.

Lindsey figures to see big minutes as a freshman. He’s a 6’7 athlete with a very good jump shot who could split time with Cleveland State transfer Junior Lomomba at shooting guard, while seeing minutes at his more natural small forward spot as well.

In an era in which many prospects start college at 19, Lindsey just turned 18 in April. With an improved handle and added strength he could become a star at Providence.
