Madness Visitors & More

cooleyalone

News, notes, and opinions on PC Hoops, and more in the latest edition of Here and There in Friartown.

1. Friar fans are rightfully disappointed that PC did not get a commitment from 2015 PG Justin Robinson, but it could potentially make room for other prospects as the Friars are involved with a number of elite guards in the Class of 2016, including two ESPN Top 60 recruits who will be at Midnight Madness tomorrow.

2. Speaking of Madness, here are the names of attendees I was able to gather for tonight.

  • TJ Gibbs, class of 2016 PG, 6’2 Seton Hall Prep NJ  (ESPN Top 60)
  • Bruce Brown, class of 2016, 6’3 PG-SG, Vermont Academy (ESPN Top 60)
  • Terrell Brown, class of 2016, 6’10 PF, St. Andrews (RI)
  • Aaron Wheeler, class of 2017, 6’6 SF, St. Andrews (RI)
  • Tomas Murphy, class of 2017, 6’8 PF, Northfield Mount Hermon (MA)
  • Hasahn French, class of 2017, 6’7 F, Commomwealth Academy (MA)
  • Christian Vitale, class of 2016, 6’2 PG-SG, St. Tomas Moore (CT)
  • Simon Wright, class of 2017, 6’5 SF, Hopkins High School (MN)

Friar commits Ryan Fazekas (2015) and Javon Taylor (2017) will also be on hand. There should be more recruits attending and I will let everyone know as soon as I get updates.

3. PC will be playing a closed scrimmage against Harvard on November 1st in Boston. I understand the benefits of scrimmaging against a Division 1 school in preseason, but I miss the days when the first scrimmage was held at Alumni Hall.

4. In case you missed our latest Provcast with Kevin McNamara you can listen to it here. Kevin provides great insight on how this year’s Friars are looking so far in the preseason.

5. As Jameis Winston gets ready for his game this week against Notre Dame there are now over 2000 Winston authenticated signatures listed on the James Spence Authentication website, up from 900 earlier this week. And Ben Bentil gets held up with clearinghouse issues?

6. Let’s see. The PC men’s hockey team is currently ranked 5th in the country, the men’s soccer team beat nationally 3rd ranked Georgetown earlier in the week, and the men’s basketball team received five votes in the preseason USA Today Coach’s poll. There is something cooking in Friartown.

7. Friday is a huge day in Friartown, as the basketball team will be holding their annual media day in addition to Midnight Madness. Friarbasketball.com will provide full coverage of both events including videos and photos.
