The new Friarbasketball.com is here at a time in which it’s never been more exciting to cover Providence College basketball.

Since starting the site in 2009, this is the season we’ve been waiting for. In his third season at the helm, charismatic Friar head coach Ed Cooley returns the bulk of a team that won 19 games a season ago and closed the 2012-13 season with a promising run in the NIT.

Need a reason to believe in the Friars? You’ve got plenty of them.

Providence returns 1st Team All Big East selection Bryce Cotton and senior Kadeem Batts, an Honorable Mention All Conference performer a season ago. Cotton led the Big East in scoring last year, while Batts was named the league’s most improved player.

Sophomore guard Kris Dunn showed flashes of brilliance in his first season and looks to make good on his McDonald’s All American talent now that he’s been handed the keys in Year 2, while junior LaDontae Henton was an All Rookie Performer two seasons ago and has been a top five rebounder in the Big East his entire career.

You might want to get to know the newcomers as well. 6’9 NC State transfer Tyler Harris could be the team’s sleeper – a left handed scorer who can beat you inside and out – while New Hampshire native Carson Desrosiers gives PC a seven footer with two years of significant ACC experience under his belt. They’ll be flanked by 6’6 freshman Brandon Austin who comes via Imhotep Charter in Philadelphia. He also brings a big time rep – three straight state titles and a top 60 ranking in the class of 2013 according to ESPN.

Josh Fortune is a second year shooter capable of breaking games open from deep, his high school teammate Rodney Bullock a true unknown locally after playing his high school career in Virginia, while Ted Bancroft, Lee Goldsbrough and Brice Kofane bring a combined 11 seasons of experience and defensive know-how to the rotation.

Need more? Virtually every Providence game will be televised nationally through either Fox or CBS Sports as the Friars begin play in the new 10 team Big East.

Us? Our goal is to provide you the same level of coverage in seasons past, while offering a more dynamic and interactive fan experience. You’ll still find the same preseason coverage, in-season analysis and exhaustive insight into all things PC recruiting, but we’ve made some upgrades this year that we hope you’ll enjoy.

Our first podcast, which we’ve labeled “Provcast,” will feature a variety of guests and an opportunity for you to call and tell us your opinions on the latest news in Friartown.

You’ll also find a revamped Video Vault with a widescreen featured video, in addition to a more organized library of all of our videos.

Our Recruiting page has been completely done over with more articles available and the new Recruiting Central page which features Providence’s key recruiting targets.

Each player on the roster has a dedicated page to himself on our expanded roster page. These pages will be updated throughout the season, whenever a player is featured on our site, so that Friar fans can keep track of their favorite players all year long.

Fans can also search through pages and pages of Friar clothing and paraphernalia as well.

We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to cover what promises to be such an exciting season in Providence and hope that we will provide you with the level of coverage all Friar fans crave and deserve.

It’s going to be a fascinating season in Providence.
