A Closer Look: Maliek White
- Updated: August 21, 2015
Friarbasketball.com will take a closer look at a number of key PC recruiting targets. Our staff will continue to provide reports on the top Friar targets throughout the year, and offer updates on prospects that have been previously featured.
Prospect: Maliek White
Position: PG
School: George Wythe
Class: 2016
AAU Program: River City Reign
Overview
One of the first players new PC assistant coach Jeff Battle started recruiting after coming aboard was Richmond, VA point guard Maliek White. White is an incredible athlete with an outside shooting touch. Here is a highlight video of him in action:
White’s stock has been rising all summer while playing for his River City Reign AAU team and he may wind up in several top 100-150 lists when the newest ratings come out.
What Others are Saying
Scout writes “No one knows yet where Maliek White will end up, but whichever school signs him is likely to bring in a player who surprises its own fan base. The Virginia point guard has been widely overlooked nationally and has the strength and confidence to contribute as a freshman, and ultimately he projects as a multi-year starter at the college level.”
Rivals notes “White is one of those guys that is a little bit off the radar but lives for the challenge. He can shoot it a bit from deep, attacks off the dribble, is a sneaky athlete and is 100 percent competitor on the floor.”
The Competition
Besides the Friars, White is also considering Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, VCU and Old Dominion. He has scheduled either official or unofficial visits to each of these schools.
The Bottom Line
White is scheduled to make an official visit to Providence on October 2 along with AAU teammate J. J. Mathews. Look for Ed Cooley and the coaching staff to go hard after both these players and try to convince them that they will form the foundation of the 2016 recruiting class for PC.
