Providence Throttles Brown, 96-57
- Updated: December 7, 2016
There would be no letdown after Providence’s emotional weekend victory over Rhode Island.
Emmitt Holt scored 20 points and 12 different Friars scored as Providence rolled over Brown, 96-57, on Tuesday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center.
Holt had his way inside and out, making 9-10 field goals and connecting on a pair of 3-pointers, while Rodney Bullock continued to stuff the stat sheet with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
This one was never close. After Brown scored the first basket of the game, PC ran off a 20-0 run sparked by three Jalen Lindsey 3-pointers.
Providence shot 61% from the field on the night and got field goals from 12 of the 13 played who suited up.
Brown gave URI all it could handle in November, but they were no match for the Friars as Ed Cooley was able to give his reserves extended minutes in the second half. As a result, Providence got solid production from a pair of freshmen, as Kalif Young shot 4-4 from the field and point guard Maliek White grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists while making a 3-pointer of his own.
White was one of five Providence reserves to knock down a 3-pointer, as PC blazed their way to a 14-27 night beyond the arc. Lindsey finished 4-5 from deep, Isaiah Jackson 2-2, and Holt made 2-3.
With the victory Providence improves to 7-2 on the season. They’ll host Massachusetts at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Saturday afternoon.
UMass owns wins over Temple and Harvard and their record currently stands at 5-2.
