PC Storms Past St. John’s
- Updated: January 3, 2016
Another game, another reminder of just how special Kris Dunn is.
Dunn finished with 26 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in Providence’s 83-65 victory over St. John’s on Saturday afternoon. And he saved his best for when PC needed him most.
The Friars saw an 18 point second half lead cut to six with under 10 minutes to play when Dunn went to work.
He connected on a pair of 3 pointers and threw down a vicious two hand dunk as he scored eight straight points for Providence, to push the lead back to 10. St. John’s would get no closer, as the Friar lead eventually grew to 24 points in the closing minutes.
PC’s star guard connected on a season high four 3 pointers (4-7) and seems to have found a groove from beyond the arc, having made 8-12 in the three games since he returned from an illness.
Sophomore point guard Kyron Cartwright provided a spark in the first half. Providence trailed 18-11 until Cartwright sank a 3 and made a short jumper to cut the lead to two at 18-16. A Jalen Lindsey 3 pointer and a Ben Bentil tip dunk followed to close a 10-0 PC run. Providence would never trail again.
Cartwright finished with 11 points, while Ben Bentil had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Rodney Bullock followed up his career night at Butler with 13 and 8.
The Friars shot nearly 50% from the field (49.1) and held a 43-34 advantage on the glass.
With the win Providence improves to 14-1 on the season, and they welcome Marquette to the Dunkin Donuts Center on Tuesday night.
