A Closer Look: Darius Hicks

Prospect: Darius Hicks

Position: PF

Class: 2016

School: 22 Ft. Academy

AAU Program: MBA Hoops

Overview:

Darius Hicks is a 6’7 power forward out of Mississippi that is being recruited by Friar assistant coach Jeff Battle. He will be playing his senior year at Prep powerhouse 22 Ft. Academy in South Carolina.

Hicks is an incredible athlete with great hops who is currently best suited to play power forward at the next level. Here is a quick look at him in action:

Once Hicks improves his handle and the range on his jump shot he should be able to spend time on the wing at a high major school.

What Others are Saying:

Scout writes “Hicks is very strong, very explosive and at 6-7 (at most) is able to compensate for less-than-ideal height with power and athleticism. He projects as a versatile defender, high efficiency finisher, and someone who has the body to battle inside from day one on campus.”

ESPN notes “Right now Hicks is a true power forward who with development could spend some time on the wing. He’s a big time athlete, and is strong and physical. Good straight line driver with obvious strength to finish through contact at the rim. He also shows some shooting touch out to 17 feet.”

The Competition:

After decommitting from Mississippi State Hicks opened up his recruitment and has been hearing from several high major schools. Besides the Friars, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, and Ole Miss are among the schools that have offered him.

The Bottom Line

Hicks has recently said that Providence College is the school that is recruiting him the hardest and that he has a great report with head coach Ed Cooley and his staff. When it gets time for him to make a decision PC may be the school to beat for his services.
