Big East All Rookie Team:
- Henry Ellenson, Marquette
- Jalen Brunson, Villanova
- Marcus Derrickson, Georgetown
- Jesse Govan, Georgetown
- Rodney Bullock, Providence
Comments: Clearly Villanova is the favorite to win the Big East this season but I think Butler has a great shot at finishing right behind Jay Wright’s Wildcats. It seems as though Roosevelt Jones has been at Butler forever so I like his hard-nosed type of play and experience coupled with Kellen Dunham’s ability to score the basketball. In terms of the Friars, having the clear cut top player in the conference should propel them just on that fact. I expect PC to gain solid contributions out of Jalen Lindsey, Ben Bentil and Rodney Bullock. Lastly, now in year two of the Steve Wojciechowski era, I expect Marquette to be better than anticipated.
Player of the Year: Kris Dunn, Providence

- Luke Fischer, Marquette
Big East All Rookie Team:
- Henry Ellenson, Marquette
- Jalen Brunson, Villanova
- Rodney Bullock, Providence
- Marcus Derrickson, Georgetown
- Jesse Govan, Georgetown
Comments: The Big East has had very few “one and done” players over the past few years, but Marquette big man Henry Ellenson could very well wind up in this year’s NBA Lottery at the end of the season. Jalen Brunson is going to come in and start immediately from Day one for an elite Villanova team. Providence is looking for Rodney Bullock to put up double digit scoring in his first season of eligibility with the Friars. Georgetown power forward Markus Derrickson is one of the most underrated players in the freshman class. Hoya big man Jesse Govan will provide Georgetown with a presence down low that few other Big East teams will be unable to match.
Player of the Year: Kris Dunn, Providence
Comments: The reigning Co-Big East player of the year and Big East defensive player of the year is an easy choice as the Big East Pre-Season Player of the Year. Already on most pre-season first team All American lists, Dunn could wind up being the National,Player of the Year at the end of the season.

Comments: Toyed with the idea of bumping Delgado to the First Team because his numbers should be terrific as a sophomore, and recognize the Dunham will likely be there in the end as he could well lead the league in scoring.
I have Butler lower than most, despite my affinity for Roosevelt Jones. The loss of Kameron Woods and his 10 rebounds a game will be felt more than anticipated. I also fought the urge to bump Creighton up another spot, or even two, in my rankings. They’re a tough out at home that lost so many close games a year ago, plus they add two key transfers. Expect Mo Watson to have a big impact.
The depth of the Hoyas may make it difficult for Copeland or Govan to put up huge numbers, but both are very talented. And I didn’t forget about Jalen Reynolds, I’m just not as high on him as everyone else. A lot of love for a power forward with one double double in conference play last year.
Player of the Year: Kris Dunn, Providence
Comments: A no brainer.
