Class: 2016

AAU Program
: Team Final
Overview:

Many Friar fans were pleasantly surprised when class of 2016 point guard Tony Carr had PC listed in his final list of five schools that he is considering attending. At 6’3 he has great height for a point guard and sees the court very well. He is a very good athlete who finishes strong at the rim and has a great handle. Here is a video of Carr in action:

Carr will have to improve his outside shot to be dominant at the next level but there is plenty of time to do that. He is a hot prospect and is currently in most Top 100 class of 2016 lists. A hip injury has sidelined Carr for the rest of the July Live Period which prompted him to narrow his list of schools to five as it would be unlikely for him to pick up any new offers without being able to play.

What Others are Saying:

ESPN says that “Carr is a a late blooming point guard who has not only continued to grow, but also developed his game at a rapid rate. Carr now has terrific size for the point guard position, allowing him to both see and pass over top of most opposing defenders. He always plays with his head up and sees the floor very well. He’s very good attacking north to south in the open floor, can also be shifty and smooth to get into the lane in a half-court game, and has runners and floaters alike when unable to get all the way to the rim. Defensively, he has the long arms and relatively quick feet to develop into a disruptive defender as well.” ESPN currently ranks Carr 52nd nationally in the class of 2016.

Scout says that “Carr is a long, wiry guard. He has grown to 6-foot-4 so clearly has good size for the point guard position. He’s quick and has a terrific handle. At the high school level, he doesn’t have any problems breaking down defenders and getting into the paint. He’s also good in transition, has impressive vision and can really pass the ball. His size, speed and ability to run the point guard standout.” Scout has Carr ranked 39th nationally in the class of 2016.

The Competition:

Besides the Friars Carr has Temple, Maryland, SMU, and Penn State is his final list of five schools that he is considering. Look for Maryland and Penn State to be the stiffest competition as they have been recruiting him the longest.

The Bottom Line:

Any time that the Friars are in a Top 50 player’s final five list the coaching staff has done a good job. They will need to continue recruiting Carr hard and get him on campus for an official visit in order to have a chance of beating out the competition.
