Friarbasketball.com will take a closer look at a number of key PC recruiting targets. Our staff will continue to provide reports on the top Friar targets throughout the year, and offer updates on prospects that have been previously featured.

Prospect: Kevin Marfo

Position: PF

School: Worcester Academy

AAU Program: BABC

Class: 2016

Overview
:

Kevin Marfo has probably had one of the best spring AAU seasons out of any player in New England. The 6’8 power forward helped lead his BABC AAU team to a 13-4 record on the Nike EYBL Circuit and a place in the Peach Jam finals in July. In 17 games Marfo averaged 11.1 points and 9.2 rebounds (5th in the EYBL) per game for BABC.

During the winter Marfo plays for Jamie Sullivan at Worcester Academy going up against some of the top players in the country in the prestigious NEPSAC AA League.

Marfo can be best described as a hard nosed player who is a tremendous rebounder. Here is a highlight video of Marfo in action:

At 6’8 and 230 pounds Marfo is a huge presence underneath the basket. What he lacks in athletic ability he makes up for in skill and determination. He has a nice touch at the rim and very good footwork. At the next level Marfo will be a true low post power forward.

What Others Are Saying

Scout says that Marfo is one of the fastest-rising prospects in the eyes of high-major programs this spring. The class of 2016 power forward is one of the stronger forwards in the class. At 6-foot-8, 235 pounds, he’s also very skilled for a player his size.

New England Recruiting Report says that Marfo is dominant in the paint. Finishing over both shoulders and through contact, his interior skill set is remarkable.

The Competition:

Besides the Friars Marfo is involved with Georgia Tech, DePaul, URI, and Boston College among others. Look for Marfo to pick up many more offers during the July Live Period.

The Bottom Line

Kevin Marfo is a throwback, a classic power forward who likes to mix it up underneath. He is a great rebounder who is determined to grab every ball off the glass. Although he can step out and knock down a fifteen footer, he is not a “stretch four.” He is going to do his damage under the basket with his size, footwork, skill, and determination.

Marfo was on the PC campus for an unofficial visit last week.
