Friarbasketball.com will take a closer look at a number of key PC recruiting targets. Our staff will continue to provide reports on the top Friar targets throughout the year, and offer updates on prospects that have been previously featured.

Prospect: Sedee Keita

Position: PF

School: 22 Feet Academy

AAU Program: WE R 1

Class: 2016

Overview:

Sedee Keita is one of the top big man prospects nationally in the 2016 class. Keita played last year at 22 Feet Academy, but many Friar fans may remember him from two years ago when he played at Vermont Academy in the NEPSAC Prep League.

The one word which best describes Keita is potential. He is a great athlete for his size (6’11, 240 lbs) and is able to get up and down the court very well. His combination of size and quickness is not often seen in a player of his height. He is still adjusting to his body having grown over nine inches in the past three years but his upside is tremendous.

Here is a quick highlight video of Keita running in the open court and going up strong to the basket:

Keita is still unpolished offensively, but that should come with time. He has already shown flashes of his offensive potential at the next level. His athletic ability and huge upside more than make up for any offensive shortcomings at this point in his development.

Keita is running with the We R 1 AAU team this summer on the Adidas circuit and is currently averaging 3.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. We R 1 is one of the top AAU teams on the Adidas circuit and is the program that produced current Friar Ben Bentil.

What Others are Saying:

ESPN says that “Keita is absolutely loaded with upside and only just scratching the surface of his potential. He’s got a naturally big and strong frame, equally long arms and legs, and uncommon mobility and agility for a guy his size. He changes ends effortlessly with long and fluid strides, is athletic around both rims, and has the early signs of some face-up tools with solid footwork and a relatively so ft touch to develop. At minimum, he projects as a good shot-blocker, rebounder, rim-runner, and finisher.” ESPN currently ranks Keita 56th nationally in the class of 2016.

Scout says that “Keita is no doubt raw, but there is a ton of potential here. Keita is a legit 6-foot-9 with elite athleticism and extremely long arms. He has some decent post moves when given time to work, though his footwork can get inconsistent. Also he must improve his hands, but he has a good touch and all the physical tools you can want.”

Rivals says that “Keita just works. During pre-game warm-ups, it is apparent he is quite skilled. He can handle the ball and shoot it, but he didn’t get to display those things Sunday. He rebounds the ball (he grabbed 10), brings good energy, and blocks shots (he swatted three and altered several more).” Rivals currently has Keita ranked 86th nationally in the 2016 class.

The Competition

The Friar coaching staff is familiar with Keita from his days at Vermont Academy and they recently offered him this past April. Besides the Friars Keita is looking at Syracuse, Texas, Villanova, VCU, and Texas Tech among others.

The Bottom Line

The PC coaching staff will go after Keita this summer if they feel that they have a realistic shot at him. They already have one top player from Keita’s AAU team, We R 1, on the roster (Bentil) and perhaps the staff’s relations with We R 1 will help with his recruitment. He will be a tough get, but the Friars are really due for some good news this off-season.
