Here and There in Friartown

News, Notes, and Opinions while wondering what would have happened if Sly Williams did show up at PC instead of URI.

  • Have you had your fill of all the “Power Five” Conference talk? Well apparently the Big East Schools certainly have. As of last night the Big East’s record against the Power Five Conference schools is 14-8 and every single member of the Big East already has at least one victory against a Power Five Conference school. It appears that the continuing ESPN reports on the demise of the Big East may be just a bit premature.
  • The Boston College game? Time to move on. All teams lay an egg here and there. Just ask Michigan (lost to NJIT) or Georgia Tech (lost to South Carolina Upstate). If it becomes a trend then you start to worry.
  • I must have seen Georges Niang play a dozen times during his high school career at Tilton and I (like many others) always thought he was underrated and was going to be a very good high major college player. I want to find the guy, however, who thought he was going to be a first team All American while playing center for the 20th ranked team in the country.
  • Ever wonder what happened to the final two recruits Keno Davis had while at PC. It turns out they are doing just fine. Point guard Kyan Anderson is the leading scorer for TCU averaging 12.5 points and four assists per game. The Horned Frogs are currently 8-0 and Anderson is shooting an incredible .962 from the free throw line. Meanwhile small forward Marcus Crider is starting for a very good Georgia State team and is averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
  • Lost in PC’s two game losing streak has been the emergence of Carson Desrosiers’ offensive game. He has always had the ability, it is just good to see that he is gaining the confidence to take the outside shot when opposing teams give it to him.
  • It was great to see John Rooke’s Thinking Out Loud column return yesterday after an extended absence. It is a must read for everyone on Saturday mornings.
  • Today is the final day of the Hoop Mountain Prep Classic at St. Andrew’s in Barrington, RI and many of New England’s top prep schools will be in action. I hope to see many of you there.
