PC Ranked 25th in USA Today Coaches Poll
- Updated: November 24, 2014
For the first time since the 2003-2004 season Providence College is ranked in the Top 25 in the weekly USA Today Coaches Poll, coming in at 25th. The Big East Conference now has two teams in the Top 25 (Villanova is 11) and two other schools also receiving votes (Georgetown and Creighton). The University of Rhode Island also received two votes after earning an impressive victory over Nebraska Saturday in Kingston. In the AP writers poll the Friars received 63 votes and finished 28th.
There was more good news for the Friars as LaDontae Henton was named the National Player of the Week by both CBS Sports and NBC Sports. Henton had an incredible week which was culminated by his 38 point performance against Notre Dame in the championship game of the Mohegan Sun Tipoff.
When you combine the great success the hoops team had this week along with the men’s soccer team advancing to the NCAA Sweet 16, both men’s and women’s cross country teams finishing 13th in the country in the NCAA’s, and a shutout victory for the PC Hockey team against New Hampshire it will go down as one of the greatest weeks in PC sports history.
