15 in 40: All Big East Teams
- Updated: November 13, 2014
With the season opener two days away, the staff of Friarbasketball.com makes their All Big East and league award predictions.
Big East Player of the Year:
Kevin Farrahar: D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Georgetown: This pick feels a lot less original after he was named preseason player of the year by the league’s coaches, but he’ll be asked to carry the perimeter load for a young Georgetown group. Toyed with the idea of JayVaughn Pinkston, but figured with all of Nova’s weapons huge numbers may be tougher to come by there.
Craig Belhumeur: DeAngelo Harrison, St. John’s: I think this is the year that Steve Lavin and the Johnnies finally live up to their talent level and Harrison will be their go to guy.
Craig Leighton: D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera, Georgetown: The 6’3 guard is the best returning player in the Big East and is going to be a big reason why Georgetown returns to the Top 25 this year.
Big East Rookie of the Year:
Kevin Farrahar: Isaac Copeland, Georgetown: I might be biased toward Copeland, who I watched excel on so many occasions at Brewster Academy last season. The 6’9 do-it-all forward brings a lot of talent from the jump. Long, rangy and can shoot beyond the 3 point line.
Craig Belhumeur: Ben Bentil, Providence: He’ll get plenty of minutes this season and I don’t think it will take others very long to figure out how
talented he is. He’s got Kadeem Batts’ touch from the mid-range with much more athleticism.
Craig Leighton: Isaiah Whitehead Seton Hall: Isaiah is going be given the green light by Kevin Willard and could wind up averaging well over 15 points a game for an improved Seton Hall squad.
