Recruiting Rankings: June 19

Kevin Farrahar’s Elite 8 for June 19, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, 6’3 SG, class of 2015: After recent visit to Georgia Tech and Florida State over the weekend, Mitchell told Rivals that he’s now not sure if he’ll be ready to make a commitment by September with his recruiting action heating up. Indiana and Oklahoma have now offered and he’ll visit Providence and BC next week — both have been pursuing him as heavily as anyone.

2. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, 6’6 SF, class of 2016: Defensive presence and efficiency have stood out at the NBAPA 100 this week for Blackwell, who recently received offers from Wake Forest and Oklahoma State, according to his coach Drew Maddox.

3. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, 6’5 SF, class of 2017: Samuels was reportedly strong at the Nike 100 camp.

4. Alex Illikainen, Grand Rapids (MN), 6’9 PF, class of 2015Mark me down as one who thinks his move to Brewster is a positive for the Friars. He told HoopsIntel.com that PC, Minnesota, Oregon and Nebraska are pushing the hardest right now. If his recruitment is open by the time he goes to Brewster it’s advantage Cooley for this top 100 power forward.

5. Steven Enoch, Norwalk High School, 6’9 PF, class of 2015: Enoch cancelled a visit to VCU in order to attend the NBA Camp. He’s scheduled for a visit to UConn on June 26 per Evan Daniels. His rise from unheralded Connecticut high school to summertime star sparks memories of Kris Dunn in 2011.

6. Jarred Reuter, 6’8 PF, Brewster Academy, class of 2015: Brewster pops up once again, this time with Reuter who has been a well known name of the New England circuit seemingly forever. Reuter’s recruitment spiked this spring after strong Jamfest performances, and the Friars offered in late-May.

7.  Malik Beasley, 6’4 SG, St. Francis (GA), class of 2015: Can PC make a run at a player who has proven to be one of the elite scorers in the nation this summer? He’s in the top five in scoring at the EYBL and his list of suitors is too long to list here. Explosive.

8. Tomas Murphy, 6’9 PF, Northfield Mount Hermon, class of 2017: Murphy and Samuels will spend the next three years vying for the top spot in New England. It was announced this week that he’ll head to Northfield Mount Hermon to play for John Carroll.

Craig Leighton’s Elite 8 for June 19, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, 6’3 SG, class of 2015: Donovan recently committed a visit to Georgia Tech and is scheduled to visit PC once Coach Cooley returns from coaching the National U18 team later this month. He has already visited PC numerous times over the past couple of years and remains the Friars no. 1 target for the 2015 class.

2. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, 6’6 SF, class of 2016: Braxton has been participating in the NBPA Top 100 Camp this week with some of the best players in the country from the 2015, 2016, and 2017 classes. He continues to be the Friars’ top priority for the Class of 2016 and lists PC as one of the schools he is most interested in.

3. Alex Illikainen, Brewster Academy, 6’9 PF, class of 2015: The good news is that Alex has transferred to Brewster Academy for his senior season which should make recruiting him much easier for the Friars. The bad news is that Alex’s sister Molly, who was a forward on the PC Women’s Ice Hockey team, has decided to transfer to St. Cloud University. The best news is that Alex has recently said that PC is one of four schools recruiting him the hardest, along with Minnesota,  Nebraska, and Oregon.

4. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, 6’5 SF, class of 2017: Jermaine is the second ranked player in New England for the class of 2017 according to NERR and should be one of the highest priorities for the PC staff going forward.

5. Tramaine Isabelle, Garfield High School, 6’1 PG, class of 2014: Tramaine is currently visiting Missouri and has recently indicated that if the visit goes well he may commit to the Tigers without taking a visit to his other final choice: Providence.

6. Jalen Adams, Cushing Academy, 6’2 PG, class of 2015: Jalen recently visited Connecticut along with 2015 ESPN Top 100 center Josh Sharma. The Huskies may be the clear cut favorite at this point for Adams.

7. Armel Potter, Kennesaw (GA), 6’1 PG, class of 2014: The 6’1 point guard has yet to be offered by the Friars, but he sounds very interested in the PC program. Armel had originally committed to Florida Atlantic, but was given his release. He just completed a recruiting visit to Tennessee Tech.

8. Steven Enoch, Norwalk High School, 6’9 PF, class of 2015: Steven is rocketing up the national rankings and is another player that is currently participating in the NBPA Top 100 Camp this week. All the high majors are taking notice and he has scheduled a visit to Connecticut later this month.
