Throughout the 2013-14 season, Friarbasketball.com will take a closer look at a number of key Friar targets. Our staff will continue to provide reports on the top Friar targets all season and share updates on prospects that have been previously featured.

Prospect: Kyron Cartwright

Position: Point Guard

School: Compton High School

AAU Program: Double Pump Elite

Class: 2014

Overview:

Kyron was recently released from his Letter of Intent from Loyola Marymount University after they fired head coach Max Good.  He is now one of the top unsigned point guards in the country. Cartwright is a 5’11 left-hander with a nice handle and smooth mid-range jump shot. He needs to work on playing more under control and improving his outside range.

What Others Are Saying:

ESPN says  that Cartwright is a slick left-handed point guard who is tough to stop in transition. He has an excellent pull-up jumper and he gets tremendous lift on it. He has a high-level burst as well and can toss in the occasional runner as well. He can get to the rim at will off the bounce and elevate over defenders. In addition, when his driving lane gets cut off he has the ability to kick out the pass to open shooters. ESPN has Cartwright ranked as a three star player and the 44th best player at his position.

SCOUT says that Cartwright is a speedy lefty, and is a kid who can make plays for others or score himself. He can score from all three levels, is very fast with the ball in his hands and also a strong passer.

The Competition:
Before committing to Loyola Marymount Cartwright had major interest from New Mexico, San Diego, and Washington State among others.

Bottom Line:
Kyron has stated that he is now looking to go to a school away from home instead of staying local. He will be visiting PC this weekend and if all goes well on both sides he may be the Friars latest commit soon thereafter.

Mixtape Time:
There are not a lot of mix tapes on Cartwright so here are a couple of highlight videos featuring Cartwright and his Compton High School team:

I still think that letting Smith get to Nebraska was a mistake-

I was high on Smith as well but at this point I have to trust that the staff knows what they are looking for in a point guard
