Cotton Watch: 7th All-time at PC in Scoring
- Updated: February 24, 2014
Bryce Cotton had one of his most efficient nights of the season Sunday at Butler. The senior guard scored his 28 points on 8-12 from the field and 5-7 from the three point line, while making all seven of his free throw attempts in the win.
The 28 points pushed Cotton past Bruce Campbell on the Friars’ all-time scoring list, as he now stands at 7th with 1814 points in his career. Campbell had scored 1809 while at PC.
With three regular season games left and the postseason still ahead of him, Cotton should climb to #5 on the scoring list, with Joe Hassett (1828) and Marvin Barnes (1839) well within reach. Fourth on the career scoring list is Jamel Thomas at 1971, while Eric Murdock (2021), Jimmy Walker (2045) and Ryan Gomes (2138) are Providence’s only 2,000 point scorers.
Cotton is also making a late run at Donnie McGrath’s school record for career three pointers. Cotton is currently 21 shy of McGrath’s 274 mark, and he’s been hitting them at a higher rate in February, connecting on at least five 3 pointers in three of PC’s games this month.
Cotton is shooting a blistering 56% from three point range in February (22-39).
He was also named Big East Player of the Week coming off of a tremendous week in which he averaged 25 points. 7.5 assists and 5 rebounds per game.
