Bryce Cotton Named Big East Player of the Week

Bryce Cotton was named Big East Player of the week after scoring 50 points and dishing out 16 assists in two contests. Here is the press release from the Big East Conference on their weekly Men’s Basketball Honors:

 

Bryce Cotton and Providence went toe-to-toe with Villanova in a double-overtime loss earlier in the week and rebounded with an 87-81 win at Butler on Sunday night. Cotton was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for his efforts, which included a 50-point week and 15 assists across the two contests. The Friars are tied for fifth in the BIG EAST at 8-7 and one half game behind Xavier and Marquette for third.

DePaul’s Billy Garrett, Jr., picks up the Rookie of the Week citation after neeting a career-high 26 points in the Blue Demons’ hard-luck overtime loss against Marquette.

BIG EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bryce Cotton, G, Providence
Cotton averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. He scored 28 points and dished six assists in an 87-81 win at Butler. He approached a triple-double with 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in an 82-79 loss in double overtime to Villanova. For the two games, Cotton shot 53.8 percent from 3-point range.

BIG EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Billy Garrett, Jr., G, DePaul
Garrett, Jr. averaged 21.5 points and 3.5 assists in games against Xavier and Marquette. He scored a career-high 26 points in a 96-94 overtime loss against Marquette, including a game-tying 3-pointer that forced overtime. For the two games, he shot 63.6 percent from beyond the arc.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Doug McDermott, F, Creighton
Averaged 27.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Shot 65.4 percent from the field.

Markel Starks, G, Georgetown
Averaged 17.5 points in a 1-1 week. Had 22 points in a win over Xavier.

Jamil Wilson, F, Marquette
Averaged 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week.

Fuquan Edwin, G-F, Seton Hall
Scored 21 points in each game of a 1-1 week. Shot .571 from the floor for the two games.

Ryan Arcidiacono, G, Villanova
Averaged 16.5 points and recorded pivotal 3-point scoring plays in two wins.
