Friar Starting Five: Thursday Edition

Here are some links to five topics of interest that PC Friar fans should find interesting.

1.Wonder how PC recruit Paschal Chukwu has been doing lately? Check out this article on Fairfield Prep’s recent victory over Xavier Falcons. Looking for more? Here is a highlight video of Fairfield Prep’s game with Xavier.

2. This Saturday is a very special day as PC will retire the numbers of Friar all-time greats Kevin Stacom and Joe Hassett. I find it very difficult for me to explain what Providence College basketball meant to me and so many others back in Kevin and Joe’s era so I will let a fellow 1979 PC alum, the one and only Peter Farrelly, explain it in a great article he wrote for Sports Illustrated. A must read for newer Friar fans who wonder what all the fuss is about. More to come on Kevin and Joe later this week.

3. This is a huge weekend for the nationally 7th ranked PC Men’s Hockey Team as they take on nationally 8th ranked UMass-Lowell in a home and home series Friday and Saturday. You can read more about the weekend series here. There are currently no tickets available for the home game on Friday but you can watch it on Cox OSN or catch the live stream online.

4. Brewster guard Donovan Mitchell has emerged as the no. 1 Friar recruiting target for the class of 2015. This past weekend Mitchell and his Brewster teammates participated in the Spaulding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, MA. Here is an interview with Donovan at the classic.

5. It seems that Bryce isn’t the only Cotton that can dunk. This one needs no further explanation:

Shocking!  Send it in Tekele!

Bonus: Don’t forget the next Ed Cooley radio show takes place on Thursday, January 23rd, from 7-8pm. If you can’t make it to Hannoush Jewlers don’t forget to tune in to 103.7 fm.
