Live from the Hoop Mountain Prep Showcase

Several of Providence College’s basketball recruits were in action on Sunday at the Hoop Mountain Prep Showcase at St. Andrew’s and Friarbasketball.com was there to there for it all. Below are some impressions of the Friars recruits along with notes from the tournament.

Jalen Adams  2015  Cushing Academy  6’2  PG/SG  Jalen picked up right where he finished off last year making a buzzer beating three pointer as Cushing defeated Bridgton Academy 76-73. During the game he showed off his outside shooting, ball handling, court vision, and his ability to finish at the rim. Jalen is a legitimate 6’2 now and he remains one of the Friars top targets for 2015.

Donovan Mitchell  2015  Brewster Academy  6’3  SG  Donovan may be the best guard in his class at getting to the rim as well as combining raw speed with great jumping ability. Sunday he was forced to play the three for Brewster as Jared Terrell did not dress for the game. He still managed to show great promise with his court vision and ability to pass the ball. Mitchell finished with 17 points as Brewster Academy defeated Worcester Academy in a very tight ball game. Donovan may be PC’s no.1 priority in the 2015 class.1503427_582205965185170_1558536142_n

Jarred Reuter  2015  Brewster Academy  6’8  PF/C  Jarred was a beast underneath for Brewster, all day, putting back several second chance opportunities and using his body to get to the foul line for three point plays. Also showing great court vision, Reuter is one of Providence’s top front court prospects in 2015.

Devonte Graham  2014  Brewster Academy  6’2  PG  Devonte showed why many scouts are calling him the top unsigned point guard left in the 2014 class. Devonte is a great athlete who has a nice handle and passing ability. Unfortunately, Graham has not been released from his letter of intent to Appalachian State and college coaches are not even allowed to talk to him at this point.

Jeremy Miller  2015  New Hampton  Prep  6’9  SF/PF  Even though he played limited minutes Jeremy showed that he has improved a lot over the summer. He has added more muscle and is now able to better mix it up underneath while still possessing a nice outside shooting touch. Jeremy is definitely someone Friar fans should be keeping an eye on going forward.

Kimani Lawrence  2017  Cushing Academy  6’5  SF  Kimani played limited minutes but showed that he can already hold his own against older competition. Going forward he should develop into one of the top prospects in the area for 2017. The Providence native lists Providence and URI as the two schools that he is currently interested in.

Donovan Love  2016  New Hampton Prep  6’1  PG  Another RI native, Love showed that he is going to be a high major recruit who many programs will be after. Donovan has a nice handle and good court awareness for someone his age. His skills will only continue to improve as he gets older and gets more playing time.

Notes from the Hoop Mountain Prep Classic

Faces in the Crowd: Both Ed Cooley and Brian Blaney were on hand to watch Brewster Academy and Cushing Academy play their respective games. Others on hand included John Thompson III of Georgetown (Recruiting Isaac Copeland of Brewster and Terrance Mann of Tilton), Kevin Ollie of UConn (Recruiting Donovan Mitchell and Jalen Adams), and assistant coach Mike Hopkins of Syracuse (Recruiting Tyler Lydon, Donovan Love, and Kaleb Joseph).

Tyler Lydon of Syracuse quickly showed why Jim Boeheim accepted a commitment from the 2015 PF so early. He is the real deal and may wind up being a one and done player for the Orange. He has all the skills and at this point he only needs to put on some weight and be more physical.

Faces in the Crowd Part 2: College coaches were not the only ones in the stands as representatives from Mass Rivals, Expressions Elite, and New England Playaz were spotted in the stands cheering on their players.

Other Players to Keep an Eye on:
Terrell Brown  2016  St. Andrews  6’9  SF/PF
Bruce Brown  2016  Vermont Academy  6’4  SG
Christian Vitale  2016  Vermont Academy  6’2  PG/SG
Aaron Calixte  2014  Lee Academy  5’11  PG
Sedee Keita  2016  Vermont Academy  6’10  PF

There will be another very big prep school tournament at St. Andrew’s in a couple of weeks as they host the annual St. Andrew’s Holiday Classic on December 20th and 21st. Many of the top NEPSAC Prep Schools will be in the tournament. Stay tuned form more details.
