Will Terrell and Abu End up at PC Together?

Terrell_inWhile they may be tired of hearing talk of a “package deal,” if 2014 prospects Abdul Malik Abu and Jared Terrell are to attend college together it will be in Providence.

The long-time AAU teammates have narrowed their respective lists to four, and the only school remaining on each is Providence.

Terrell is now down to Providence, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State and Rhode Island, while Abu lists Florida, North Carolina State, Connecticut and the Friars.

Providence has been in pursuit of Terrell longer than any school on his list. Oklahoma State got involved very recently, while URI’s Danny Hurley made a huge impression on Terrell this summer with his dogged pursuit of the rugged 6’3 guard. For months Terrell has said that PC and Cincinnati were among the schools most heavily pursuing him.

Abu virtually had his choice of any school in the country, with defending national champion Louisville offering this summer. Providence was among the first high-major schools to recruit the elite power forward.

So, how realistic is the possibility of Abu and Terrell coming to PC together? In recent weeks the duo has backed off of ever saying that they wanted to go to college together, but notably their AAU coach, Ty Boswell told Zagsblog as recently as April 29, “That’s their goal. The goal is to try to play together if it works out for them both. If not, they’ll do what’s in the best interest of each of them.”

The announcement of their final four schools came from Boswell via Twitter tonight.

Last summer, Terrell and Abu told NBC’s Rob Dauster that they wanted to play together. “If a better situation comes along, we might have to part ways,” Terrell told NBCSports.com. “But for now, it’s what we want to do.” Abu added, “We don’t want to hold each other back, but I bet we end up together.”

With both Terrell and Abu due on campus this weekend, the eyes of Friartown will be on the elite camp in what could be the next step toward one of the best recruiting classes in the country.
