Terrell to Cut List, Abu Stands Out, Joseph Update, Chukwu in Philly

News and notes from around the web…

1. Abdul Malik-Abu is doing it differently on and off the court, according to NBC Sports’ Rob Dauster. Those who followed his recruitment last summer will remember him fasting for Ramadan, and the 6’7 power forward talked about playing while fasting at the Nike Global Challenge last week.

Perhaps even more intriguing about Abu is who he chose to play for at the Global Challenge. Instead of suiting up for USA East, he played for the Pan-African team. His parents are Nigerian and he noted he, “wanted to be different, I wanted to do something for my heritage. I don’t want to beat teams by 20. I want to go against the best players instead of be on their team.”

Refreshing in this day and age.

2. “I’m going to cutting my list pretty soon. I got a lot of teams after me and I’m going to be trimming it down pretty soon,” Jared Terrell shared with City of Basketball this weekend.  Providence has long recruited the power guard out of Massachusetts, and he continues to list the Friars among the schools most heavily pursuing him.

3. Kaleb Joseph saw his game take off over the past year, and now he wants to be regarded as the best point guard in the class of 2014, or so he told Alex Schwartz of NBE.com. Joseph was cryptic in regards to who is coming at him the hardest and said that he’s in no rush to make a decision regarding his college destination.

“I’m just looking for a good fit. That’s big for me. I want a good relationship with the coaching staff and I want to win. I want player development. I want coaches who are going to push me to my limits and help me get where I want to be at the end of the day,” Joseph said.

He’s said in the past that Syracuse has always been his “dream school”, but his decision could be impacted by other prospects and when they pop. The Orange already have a terrific freshman-to-be in Tyler Ennis and Philadelphia point guard Ja’Quan Newton is a 2014 kid who could find his way to Syracuse as well.

4. Pascal Chukwu told City of Basketball that his current list of offers consists of Providence, Connecticut, St. Joseph’s, St. John’s and George Mason.
