Top 100 Recruits Becoming Commonplace in Providence

Jalen Lindsey becomes the latest in a growing list of top 100 recruits who’ve chosen to take their talents to Providence. Just how far has recruiting come under Ed Cooley?

From 2000-2010, Providence landed four players with an RSCI ranking in the top 100. The RSCI, or Recruiting Services Consensus Index, combines the rankings of the most well known national recruiting services to create a consensus ranking.

Those four players?

  • Dwight Brewington (#70 in 2003)
  • Gerald Brown (#90 in 2003)
  • DeSean White (#82 in 2004)
  • Gerard Coleman (#64 in 2010)

Cooley has matched that number in just over two years on the job. Not only has he reached that total, but he’s landed a pair of RSCI top 25 recruits (Ricky Ledo at #13, Kris Dunn at #20), a top 60 guard in Brandon Austin (#58 RSCI), while Lindsey should easily land in the top 50 at season’s end.

Factoring in transfers Carson Desrosiers (#66 in 2010) and Tyler Harris (#96 in 2011), Providence has seen commitments from six top 100 players in the 27 months Cooley has been the head coach.

The talent level is on the rise in Providence, and there could be more to come this summer.
