Friar Basketball

A Closer Look: Jarred Reuter

Friarbasketball.com is taking a closer look at a number of key Friar targets. Our staff will continue to provide in-person reports the top Friar targets throughout the summer and regular season, and provide updates on prospects that have been previously featured.

Prospect: Jarred Reuter

Position: PF/C

School: Brewster Academy

AAU Programs: NE Playaz/ECE Elite

Class: 2015

Overview:

Jarred Reuter is a 6’9 low post player who recently transferred to NEPSAC powerhouse Brewster Academy from Tabor Academy. Jarred is a physical force underneath the basket at 250 pounds and will be one of the top interior prospects in the class of 2015.

In Person Impressions:

I had a chance to watch Jarred in person for a few games at the Providence Jamfest a few weeks ago. The first thing that strikes you about him is his willingness to mix it up underneath the basket. A classic wide bodied big man, Reuter loves contact. He is one of those rare players who is actually better after he is fouled and at the college level will be living at the free throw line making 3 point plays the hard way.

Reuter’s Game

Jarred takes no prisoners in the paint. He is great at finishing down low after getting fouled underneath. Watch this video of Jarred in action in the paint courtesy of 2 EZ Videos:

Reuter is also a great interior passer and has a soft touch out to 15 feet. He has missed time over the past year with injuries (most recently a sprained ankle) but should be at 100 percent for the July live period AAU games.

What Others Are Saying:

ESPN says that “Reuter plays with reckless abandon inside the paint, bullying physically weaker and less aggressive players. Even at his young age opposing players already bounce off his strong frame as he carves out space to score inside, rebound, and defend the post.”

RIVALS notes that “Reuter is about as physical as a player can be, going about 250 pounds now but possesses a nice cadre of spin moves and a decent touch around the basket.”

SCOUT says that “New England is one area of the country that seems to be on the rise in terms of producing basketball talent. In the 2015 class one of the best from the area is Jarred Reuter.”

The Competition:

While it is still early in the recruiting process for the 2015 prospect, he already has offers from Indiana, Connecticut, Florida, and Boston College. There is also interest from Rutgers, St. John’s and North Carolina. Providence has also offered Reuter.

Bottom Line:

Jarred is the prototype physical big man that a team needs to survive in the Big East. He enjoys mixing it up underneath and actually plays better after contact. This is exactly the type of player that the Friars have been lacking in their program the past few years.

Reuter was at the last PC’s Late Nite Madness and has also been to the Dunk to see the Friars in action.
