Friar Basketball

The First AAU “Live” Period Starts this Weekend

This weekend marks the start of the first “live” weekend for AAU tournaments, as Division I coaching staffs will be allowed to view the action. There are several major tournaments going on with key PC recruits participating.

The first EYBL tournament gets underway in Los Angeles starting this Friday night. A number of PC targets will be at this event, and it will be interesting to see which PC coaches will be in attendance and who they will be watching.

On Friday at 8:00PM the Southern Stampede led by Jalen Lindsey will be taking on Indy Spice. At 9:30 Expressions Elite takes on Nike Team Louisiana. Several key PC targets are on the Expressions squad including Abdul Malik Abu, Jared Terrell, Alec Brennan, Jared Wilson-Frame, and Aaron Falzon.

Saturday is a must watch day for Friar recruiting junkies as many games will be streamed live at The Basketball Channel at http://www.thebasketballchannel.net/eybl.  I watched the Jordan Brand Classic Regional game on there last Saturday and it was a very good stream, so I hope they really come through big time on Saturday. Here is the TV schedule for Expressions and the Southern Stampede on Saturday:

  • Expressions vs. The Oakland Soldiers 9:30 AM PT Channel 2
  • Southern Stampede vs Wis Playground 12:30 PM PT Channel 4
  • Expressions vs Indy Spiece 3:30 PM PT Channel 1

Other teams participating in Los Angeles include BABC, the Albany City Rocks, and Boo Williams.

The first Adidas tournament (The Adidas Exclusive Run) also starts this weekend in Dallas and features the other AAU team Friar fans will be watching this season, The Mass Rivals. Friar recruits on Mass Rivals include Kaleb Joseph, Jalen Adams, Matt Cimino, and Josh Sharma. Their first game is Saturday against the Memphis Magic Elite at 9:15 AM.

Several other AAU events will be taking place this weekend and no doubt there will be Friar recruits at most of them. The link below contains a list of the most prominent AAU tournaments taking place this summer.
