Some Providence/URI pregame reading…

1. The Providence Journal’s Kevin McNamara takes an honest look at the state of both Providence and Rhode Island heading into this one. He addresses who has more to gain, Ed Cooley’s performance to date, the advantage the home team has had since this game started alternating between the Dunkin Donuts Center and the Ryan Center in 2003, and delves into what this game means for both fanbases.

2. Kevin and the Journal’s URI beat writer Bill Koch also have a podcast previewing Friday night.

3. The Ocean State Sidelines podcast, featuring Brendan McGair and Will Geoghegan, takes a look at this matchup and makes predictions on Friday night’s winner.

4. Channel 12’s Morey Hershgordon offers a feature on URI star Fatts Russell, noting that Russell will be the best player on the floor Friday night.

5. Yurview has a pair of articles on the game. Chris DiSano caught up with URI head coach David Cox. Cox talks about the trust Fatts Russell has in him, the growth he wants to see from his team defensively, and the challenge Providence presents with its size across the board.

Meanwhile, Daniel James provides the Providence fan perspective in a lengthy piece that includes tweets from the Friar fanbase over the past week.

6. Brendan McGair posted Ed Cooley’s media session from earlier this week:

Clearly he has his reasons, but it’s interesting that Coach doesn’t want to call this rivalry what it so naturally and obviously is.

I have seen enough first half uri game. Diallo terrible, can’t even make easy passes and pimkins, send back to umass. Terrible.

13 first half turnovers, almost everyone unforced. You won’t be anyone playing like that. Diallo most overrated player I can remember. Picking up right where he left off last year, can’t shoot, turnovers galore.
