Greg Gantt: A Closer Look
- Updated: April 13, 2018

Friarbasketball.com will take a closer look at a number of key PC recruiting targets throughout the offseason. Our staff will also continue to provide updates on prospects that have been previously featured.
Prospect: Greg Gantt
Position: Wing
School: Trinity Christian
AAU Program: Team Felton
Class: 2019
Overview:
As one of the fastest rising players in the 2019 class, Gregg Gantt has seen his recruitment take off this spring. In the past month he has received offers from Georgia Tech, Louisville, Clemson, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt.
The 6’8 Gantt possesses all the tools to exceed at the next level as a hybrid forward. He is equally adept at shooting the outside shot and driving to the rim and finishing with authority. Gantt sees the court well and is an adept facilitator. Here is a highlight video displaying all of his skills:
Gantt is ranked 63rd nationally in the class of 2019 by Rivals and 76th nationally by 247 Sports. He is not currently in the ESPN rankings, but should be ranked when ESPN comes out with its first top 100 for the 2019 class.
What Others are Saying:
Rivals says “A 6-foot-8 junior forward with a great motor, Gantt is the ideal small-ball power forward for today’s game. He is a tremendous passer facing the basket, can make the open jumper out to 18-feet and is tough and active enough to leave his mark on the glass.
Also from Rivals:
“A relative unknown to those from outside of his North Carolina locale, word is just beginning to spread about the talented and versatile Gantt. One of the top passers in his class, regardless of position, Gantt is a hybrid forward that can finish through contact, create for others and defend three spots on the court.”
The Competition:
Besides the Friars, Gantt holds offers from several ACC, SEC, and Big East teams. Expect him to get even more offers from high major programs during the spring and summer live AAU periods.
The Bottom Line:
The competition for Gantt is going to be fierce, as he will very likely be a top 50 player nationally.
Ed Cooley and the PC coaching staff got in on his recruitment very early. He could be one of their top two prospects in the 2019 class along with Putnam Science’s Akok Akok.
It appears that the the feeling is mutual. Gantt told Rivals last fall: “I love those guys. Going through the college process, you can kind of pick out the fake ones from the real ones. I see the realness in them. When I am talking to them, they aren’t BS-ing me, or sugar-coating anything, but instead they’re upfront with me.”
“The big thing about them is that they really like my versatility. They just don’t tell me what I want to hear. That is the big thing with them. They tell me what I have to work on if I go there and that’s one of things that I really respect about those guys. They do make an effort to come down to see me and I really appreciate that.”
Expect Gantt’s recruitment to heat up during the summer, but the Friars should remain in the hunt throughout.
