Looking Back: Friars Storm Back vs Marquette
- Updated: November 4, 2017
It’s all coming together…
Game:Â Marquette at Providence, Saturday, February 25
Where the Friars Stood: The seemingly unthinkable became a reality after Providence defeated Butler and Xavier at home before winning on a last second 3-pointer by Kyron Cartwright at Creighton.
With those three wins, the Friars’ tournament hopes were suddenly very much alive. There was still work to do, however, and Marquette offered an opportunity to knock off a fourth straight NCAA Tournament team.
With two winnable games to close out the regular season (DePaul at home, at St. John’s) the Dunk was at a fever pitch for this Saturday afternoon tilt.
The Result: As thrilling as Cartwright’s last second bomb against Creighton was, this one somehow topped it.
Providence trailed by 12 with just over seven minutes to play before rallying late for a 73-69 victory. Rodney Bullock was clutch in the closing minutes, tipping home a pair of misses and burying a big time 3-pointer.
Bullock finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win, while Kyron Cartwright had 16 points and eight assists.
