Recruiting Update: Cane Broome, Akil Douglas

Cane Broome

This is shaping up to be an important week recruiting-wise in Providence, as a pair of prospects are visiting campus.

In December Friarbasketball.com reported that the Friars were looking into Akil Douglas of San Jose City College. Douglas is a sophomore power forward in the junior college ranks who broke out early this season with a 33 point night that was followed soon after by a 28 point, 14 rebound effort.

He is slated to visit Providence on Tuesday. The 6’10 Douglas is considered a stretch four.

I was also able to confirm that Sacred Heart transfer Cane Broome visited Providence on Monday.

Broome, a sophomore, was the Northeast Conference Player of the Year after a season in which he averaged over 23 points per game. He’s also heard from Michigan, Cincinnati, Creighton, North Carolina and UNLV, according to The New Haven Register. As an undergraduate transfer, Broome would have to sit out the 2016-17 season and would then be eligible to play his final two seasons at PC.

This is a player followers of New England recruiting have been familiar with for quite some time. He teamed with Eric Paschall (who will be eligible to play at Villanova next season after transferring from Fordham) at St. Thomas More where he scored against elite talent, most notably a 30 point effort at the Prep National Championship against Putnam Science in March 2014.

Broome, an East Hartford, CT native, committed to Sacred Heart prior to playing at St. Thomas More — where his stock rose after a strong season. He was the point guard on an Expressions Elite AAU team that featured former PC recruits Abdul Malik-Abu and Jared Terrell, and at the time of his commitment to Sacred Heart he said that he pledged there in part because he wanted to play immediately.

He played right away — averaging nearly 15 points per game as a freshman before blowing up this season.

Broome made an early statement by scoring 27 against Quinnipiac in the season opener and then hanging 32 on Yale the next time out. He took 29 free throws in those two games alone.

The rest of the season saw similar outbursts — 26 at Northwestern, 25 at Hofstra, 33 at Robert Morris, 29 at St. Francis, and 24 against Fairleigh Dickinson all in a five-game stretch in late December.

Broome finished the season with five 30+ point nights (32, 33, 38, 39, and 35 in the season finale) and twice took over 20 foul shots in a game.

The staff is very familiar with his game after seeing him at both St. Thomas More and alongside two of their top targets from the class of 2014.

Friarbasketball.com will continue to provide updates on recruiting targets throughout the spring.

I didn’t have any expectations regarding that title, but then the longer I was astonished.
The author did a great job. I spent a few minutes studying and checking the facts.
Everything is crystal clear and understandable.

I found something like a couple of weeks before,
however you did detailed study, along with your article seems to be more compelling than others.

I am astounded by the arguments you provided as well as the fashion of your post.
I like when articles are both interesting and informative, when even dull facts are presented in an interactive manner.
Well, it’s absolutely on your article.

I enjoyed the article and assume you’ve got more such stuff?
If so, so please note it because it is somewhat uncommon for me in the current instant,
and not for me, that is my view.
