Dajour Dickens Commit Big for PC
- Updated: February 27, 2016
The Friars needed this one.
Last Friday reports surfaced that 6’11 class of 2017 power forward Dajour Dickens committed to Providence, but the story was recanted within hours. One week later he made the news official by publishing the announcement on his Twitter page.
The feeling from the Providence staff was that, despite last week’s reports that Dickens hadn’t yet committed, they were very comfortable with where they stood with the big man from Hampton, VA. Ed Cooley and Andre Lafleur went to Virginia last Friday to watch Dickens in action, as the staff has built a terrific relationship with Dickens and his family over the past couple of months. Now Dickens is part of Cooley’s Friar family.
What will he bring to Providence? Upside, and a lot of it.
Scout.com national recruiting analyst Brian Snow wrote of Dickens, “As he continues to get more physically mature, and has a better understanding of the game, that is when Dickens really could take off as a player.”
He continued, “While he isn’t quite ready physically, there is no denying the type of upside Dickens has. Quite honestly there are just a very small number of prospects in the country that have his combination of height, length, athleticism, and ability to run the floor.”
Hoopseen’s Corey Evans shared a positive outlook: “Dickens is very mobile as he gets up and down the floor like someone six inches shorter than his actual standing stature and has quality touch around the basket. While his motor and consistent production has sometimes been an issue with him, his basketball ceiling never has. He can score facing the basket out to 15-feet out and also convert over his left shoulder within the post. Sporting great length and a good feel for the game at the 5-spot, the commitment of the Hampton Roads native is a great start heading into the spring.”
Dickens is considered a four star prospect by most national services and puts Providence in a solid position to build out a terrific 2017 recruiting class.
Here is additional reaction about his commitment:

Great pickup for Ed Cooley and Providence Collage. I am sure he will continue to recruit more nice players for the program. I just can not wait to see who else he has comming to the program. Some other players are interested in joining up it’s just who that makes me hope it is players that the other Big East team’s like Villinova and creighton all of the other great teams that will not be able to gain that advantage like they do every year now it’s our turn to get the players that will bring us to be on every ones attention for the next several years. Oh by the way big Ed Cooley is not going anywere for quite a while. If every one realy new his life story you would not belive it. What a nice Mother he has i have known her for years.
