Prospect: Taurean Thompson

Position: PF

Class: 2016

School: Brewster Academy

AAU Program: NJ Playaz

Overview:

Taurean Thompson is a silky smooth power forward who is spending his senior year playing for Brewster Academy. Thompson is agile for his size and has put up big block numbers at Brewster. Here are some highlights of Thompson in action:

The PC coaching staff has really stepped up its recruitment of Thompson and have recently seen him play several times, most recently on Friday at Northfield Mount Hermon.

Thompson recently took an unofficial visit to Providence on Jan. 2 when the Friars defeated St. John’s.

What Others are Saying:

ESPN says that Thompson is “a developing big man who possesses physical tools and budding skills. Thompson is an intriguing long-term prospect up front. He’s got a long and solid build that should fill out naturally, good athleticism to run the floor and play up and around the rim.” They currently have him ranked as the 87th player nationally in the class of 2016.

NERR says “Thompson’s game is based not just on his physical tools with his size and athleticism, but also on a solid skill set facing the basket as he is a consistent shooting threat on the perimeter and evolving mismatch problem.”

The Competition

Besides the Friars, Syracuse is pursuing Thompson hard. Other schools involved in his recruitment include Seton Hall, Rutgers, and Temple.

The Bottom Line

The PC coaching staff is looking to bring in two big men in the 2016 class. They are pushing for Thompson, but the competition to land him will be fierce.
