News, notes, and opinions on Friar basketball (and other topics) while wondering when was the last New England college basketball team to go through the regular season undefeated (just kidding).
- The scariest thing about Kris Dunn’s performance Saturday night is that it could have been much better. He missed several shots in the first half including three or four that he would normally make. Dunn is going to give opposing guards sleepless nights all season long.
- In case you missed Dunn’s performance here are a couple of highlight videos from Friarbasketball.com’s Corey Porter and from FriarTV:
- And here is the full game video also courtesy of FriarTV
- I think Rodney Bullock has answered the.people who were wondering where PC’s scoring was going to come this year outside of Dunn.
- Sure Ben Bentil had a subpar game but with eight points and 11 rebound he was only two points shy of his first double double of the season. He will be just fine.
- I guess everyone now knows why Ed Cooley accepted a verbal commitment from Ryan Fazekas in October of his junior year. “Pistol Zeke” already plays like a veteran which is a nice bonus to go along with his beautiful outside stroke.
- The Big East did not get off to great start last weekend with Georgetown losing to Radford and Marquette losing to Belmont. These are the types of losses that hurt the conference’s RPI which is very important come tourney selection time.
- College basketball in the State of Rhode Island took a hit on Friday when URI guard E. C. Mathews tore his ACL. Hopefully he will be able to get back to 100 percent for next season.
- The National Prep Showcase is taking place this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT. Some of the teams participating include Brewster Academy, Putnam Science Academy, Cushing Academy, and Hargrave Military Academy (with Friar recruit Iran Bennett). It is a great chance to check out some of the best high school players in the country.
