Kris Dunn Named Blue Ribbon POY

The accolades keep coming for Kris Dunn. He’s been named Blue Ribbon’s preseason national player of the year.

From the Providence Journal’s Kevin McNamara:

According to Chris Dortch, the editor of the so-called `bible’ of college basketball guides, the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, Dunn can be the national player of the year. When its 35th anniversary edition is released next month, Dunn will be Blue Ribbon’s preseason pick for national player of the year.

“I’ve watched a lot of tape and talked to a lot of people in college and NBA basketball and Kris’ impact this season will be huge,” said Dortch, who is based in Chattanooga, Tenn. “I look at point guard numbers and Kris’ are off the charts. He has the ability to take over a game.”

Dunn, a 6-4 redshirt junior point guard, averaged 15.6 points, 7.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 steals last season. This year even more responsibility will fall on the reigning Big East Player and Defensive player of the year as the Friars include a team with nine first or second year players. Dortch said potential team success is only one measuring stick in his determination.

“Is it numbers or wins or pro potential? Probably all of them,” Dortch said. “He could be like a Doug McDermott (the ex-Creighton All-American) who you knew would get his numbers and you couldn’t stop it.”

I didn’t know JJ Mathews had a torn ACL, but even so, I thought he would go to a higher conference team than Towson. I think he will do very well-

Let’s hope this makes other recruits realize that you can go thru Friartown and not only get to the NBA but also receive an education, find a family and an unwavering fan base… the thought of someone transferring this year and not being a part of what is about to happen is unfathomable. What were their advisers thinking ??? Mr. Bentil is our next success story from this program 2,000/1,000 here he comes… The Year of Getting it Dunn starts now !!
