Friarbasketball.com continues with our latest “15 in 40” season preview article, taking a look at several former Providence  players, coaches, and commits and what they will be doing this season.

  • Josh Fortune transferred to the University of Colorado in May of 2014. After sitting out this past season for the Buffaloes he will have two years of eligibility remaining. Fortune will be competing for playing time at the shooting guard position and should be part of their regular rotation.
  • Tyler Harris transferred to Auburn at the end of the 2014-2015 season. As a fifth year senior who has already graduated he will be immediately eligible for Bruce Pearl’s Tigers and should be in their starting lineup. Friar fans should mark their calendars for November 17th when Auburn team takes on Colorado team as part of the ESPN Tip-Off Marathon.
  • Paschal  Chukwu also transferred at the end of last season but he will have to sit out this year for the Syracuse Orangemen. He will then have three years of eligibility left at Syracuse.
  • Keno Davis is starting his fourth season as head coach of the Central Michigan Chippewas. Last year his team finished 23-9 in the Mid-American Conference. Former PC Director of Player Operations Kevin Gamble remains as one of Davis’s assistant coaches.
  • PC associate head coach Bob Simon left the program at the end of last season to become associate head coach at Alabama under first year head coach Avery Johnson. Look for the Alabama basketball program to once again be relevant under Johnson and Simon.
  • Former Friar assistant coach Pat Skerry is entering his fifth season as the head coach of the Towson where he continues to build a solid basketball program. Former PC grad assistant Michael Swets is a part of Skerry”s staff as the director of player operations.
  • Former PC commit Markus Crider started for Georgia State last year and helped lead the Panthers to a Cinderrella run in last year’s NCAA Tournament. Crider and his teammates were at the ESPY’s last year, as the team was nominated for the biggest upset of the year. Crider will be a senior this season.
  • Former Ed Cooley assistant Carmen Maciariello enters his second season as an assistant coach for the George Washington Colonials. Prior to that he was an assistant at Boston University for three years.
  • Former Keno Davis assistant coach Chris Davis continues as an assistant coach at UC Davis. Last year the Aggies finished with a record of 24-7.
