Wenyen Gabriel CoxHub PodCast
- Updated: August 26, 2015
The New England Recruiting Report’s Adam Finkelstein hosted a podcast on CoxHub and closed with an update from Providence recruit Wenyen Gabriel.
It’s great timing for Cox, as both ESPN and Scout.com released their latest top 100 rankings today and no player climbed higher than Gabriel. The 6’10 New Hampshire native was outside of the top 100 rankings in the spring, but is now a top 25 player per ESPN and cracked Scout’s top 10 nationally.
The Friars are one of five schools still in the hunt for Gabriel, along with Connecticut, Maryland, Duke and Kentucky. Duke seems like they might be tough to beat here, as Gabriel told Finkelstein, “It’s just really special with Duke. I don’t know who wouldn’t want to play for Coach K. It’s just a great opportunity for me.”
Gabriel spoke of the comfort he has with the two local schools, UConn and PC, noting that Ed Cooley “has done a great job recruiting me. He’s a people person and a player’s coach.”
He explained that he has not set up official visits with Providence or UConn because he’s seen both schools twice already. When pushed further he said that he will “probably” visit both again in October.
The full podcast is well worth a listen, as Finkelstein and NERR contributor Luc Smith breakdown a busy summer for New England recruits in a very entertaining 30 minute episode.
