PC Offers Wabissa Bede

This past weekend several members of the Mass Rivals AAU basketball team were on the PC campus for an unofficial visit. At the end of the day one of those players, Wabissa Bede, picked up an offer from the Friars. It was the first high major offer for the rising 6’1 sophomore point guard from North Andover, MA.

This season Bede averaged 26.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 3.4 steals for North Andover High. His season was highlighted by an incredible 47 point outburst over Haverhill in February. Here are Bede’s highlights from that game:

The first thing you notice about Bede when you see him play is that he has an incredible outside shot for his age as a point guard. He is equally deadly pulling up for jumpers or catching and shooting from the outside. His athleticism and handle also jump out at you. He drives to the basket hard and is able to either finish strong or pass to open teammate for an easy basket.

Here is another video highlighting Bede’s considerable talents:

Bede runs with the Mass Rivals AAU team on the Adidas circuit “playing up a level” on their 17 and under squad. During the Adidas Gauntlet tournaments this spring Bede averaged 9.5 points per game while shooting 57.1% beyond the arc over eight games. Mass Rivals finished with  a 7-1 record and  is one of the best teams on the Adidas circuit. They have been invited to the Adidas Gauntlet finals from July 8th-11th.

Bede will be moving on to Cushing Academy in the fall where he will be teaming in the backcourt with his Mass Rivals teammate Makai-Ashton Langford. If both players continue to develop Cushing could wind up with a backcourt just as good as the one they had with Kaleb Joseph and Jalen Adams (both of whom are Mass Rivals alumni).

It is going to be fun watching Wabissa Bede develop over the next couple of years. Local Friar fans should get out and see for themselves next year as Cushing Academy usually plays in several tournaments in RI at both St. Andrews School and Rhode Island College. You can bet that the Friar coaching staff will be watching him closely as well.

What’s up with the (2015) kid from Georgia, ‘Reyos’, or something like that. (From what I saw on tape), I think that kid has a really good upside and would be a good sign for the Friars…..
