Quadree Smith Commits to PC
- Updated: June 10, 2015
IMG Academy power forward Quadree Smith has given a commitment to attend Providence College. The announcement was made on IMG Academy’s twitter account:
IMG Academy's Quadree Smith is a Friar! He has committed to play basketball next fall at @PCAthletics! #IMGfam pic.twitter.com/luGsA5pqaV
— IMG Academy (@IMGAcademy) June 10, 2015
At 6’8 250 pounds, Smith is a classic low post player who is a beast underneath the basket and will not be pushed around. He has a high basketball I. Q. and a soft shooting touch.
Smith had originally committed to UNC Greensboro, but decided to open up his recruitment as his play improved when he lost over 40 pounds.
IMG plays against some of the top competition in the country and Smith consistently played against elite big men. He and his IMG Academy team played in Rhode Island this past February at the National Prep School Invitational against Wilbraham & Monson (with Wenyen Gabriel).
In March IMG Academy and Smith went up against Northfield Mount Hermon in the semifinals and Brewster Academy in the finals of the National Prep School Championship. You can watch replays of both of these games here (after you click on the player just click on the box below of the game you want to see).
Kevin Farrahar has seen Quadree Smith play in person and had a nice article on him earlier this week.
Smith adds much needed size and depth to a Friar frontcourt that has been depleted by the transfer of Paschal Chukwu and the possibility of incoming recruit Alex Owens not being eligible.
Friarbasketball.com will have more coverage on Smith’s commitment later on today.

Opposing teams will be limping out of the Dunk this year with Quadree and Big Ben banging around underneath the rim!

Seems like a large wingspan for his size. Video looks like a good basketball IQ.

actually I think Andre LaFleur was the lead on Quadree’s recruitment, but I agree I am hearing that Battle hit the ground running and is already laying the groundwork for some nice recruits including 6’11 center John Carlos Reyes who is visiting PC starting on Thursday.
