Tyler Harris to Auburn
- Updated: May 15, 2015
Tyler Harris is headed to Auburn. A fifth year senior-to-be who graduates this spring, Harris will be immediately eligible to play next year for Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl. Pearl coached Harris’ brother Tobias at Tennessee.
Although Harris reportedly had over a dozen schools he was considering, it comes as no surprise that he chose the Tigers. I’d hinted at the move in an article on May 1st:
“I have been saying all along that Tyler Harris may wind up at Auburn, and I would not be surprised if he commits shortly after he visits there this weekend. Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl was Tobias Harris’ coach when he was at Tennessee and he still has a good relationship with the family. A lot of people have been critical of Harris, but I will remember him as a productive player on two NCAA Tournament teams for the Friars who never had any issues or attitude problems.”
Harris was a key member of Providence’s last two teams, both of which made the NCAA Tournament. Last year he averaged 9.9 ppg and 4.0 rpg in 26 minutes. Harris lost his starting position to freshman Ben Bentil after the Stony Brook game on December 13, which may have helped cement his decision to transfer this spring with one year of eligibility remaining at Providence.
PC has several options to fill Harris’ spot at small forward next year including sophomore Jalen Lindsey, redshirt sophomore Rodney Bullock and freshman shooter Ryan Fazekas.
