Ricky Council, a 2015 6’5 shooting guard from North Carolina, has given a verbal commitment to attend Providence College. Other schools that Council considered include Tulsa, Kansas State, and Wake Forest.

Council has great athletic ability and is known as a lights out outside shooter. His stock has risen dramatically since he decided to transfer to Moravian Prep for a post grad year.

Council is a prolific scorer who is able to get points in bunches. This year he exploded for 53 points in a game against The Robinson School in the Pioneer Swanny Classic:

One of the Friars big needs for next year is outside shooting and getting Ricky Council is a big first step in filling this need. Council joins a 2015 class for the Friars which already includes 6’3 combo guard Drew Edwards, 6’7 forward Ryan Fazekas, and 6’8 center Alex Owens. PC is now at the 13 scholarship limit for next year but still may not be done recruiting depending on how circumstances work out.

Love seeing this as well but let’s keep expectations in check here. Jalen Lindsay was also a terrific shooter in HS but he’s yet to become a consistent outside threat. And we desperately need one. But all that said, it’s just great to see us now not only being involved with these upper-level kids, but signing a bunch of them too. The program, has at last, turned the corner and the future is very bright!!
