Friar Basketball

Rounding Out Media Day

BETCelebration

Friday was certainly a busy day on campus with the PC Media Day and Madness — and Friarbasketball.com was there in full force. Here are some interesting quotes that the players gave me during Friday’s media session:

Jalen Lindsey on PC recruit Braxton Blackwell: “Braxton’s young and he’s a great player. I loved playing with him. Obviously there are a lot of teams trying to pick him up, including Providence.”

Ben Bentil on the PC coaching staff: “I love the coaching staff, they’re very willing to teach. They let you make mistakes so they can teach you. It’s not all about basketball either; they’re always reaching out and asking you how you’re doing.”

Tyler Harris on what he worked on during the off season: “Ball handling, shooting, working on my speed and conditioning. I feel the overall improvement has been real good.”

Carson Desrosiers on how his decision to transfer to PC from Wake Forest a couple of years ago has worked out: “The first year I played we won a Big East Championship. I absolutely can’t complain about that, and I am just looking to make another run this year.”

Kyron Cartwright on playing against Kris Dunn: “Just playing against Kris every day in practice has made me a better player. I believe he is one of the best point guards in America.”

Kris Dunn on his goals for this year: “I just want to play hard every game and to lead my team as far as we can go, and hopefully win every game.”

LaDontae Henton on his decision to come to PC and be Ed Cooley’s first recruit: “It is one of the best decisions I made in my life. I love it here. We just won a championship, and I’ve built a bond with my coaching staff, so it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.”

Junior Lomomba on what he worked on during his year off: “Just my overall game — working on defense, getting stronger, working on my dribble and just competing at a high level.”

Harris on what position he will play this year: “Because of my versatility on the court I feel can play whatever role the team needs me to play. I will play whatever position I need to in order to help the team win.”

Bentil on what it was like to play in only part of his high school team’s games last year: “It wasn’t a big deal to me because I had already committed to a school and I was able to focus on my education more. It kind of hurt sometimes when my teammates needed me on the court, but at the same time you can’t do anything about it.”

Desrosiers on concentrating on offense more this year: “It’s something that has been coming out in practice. Last year we had so many options in terms of guys who could put up big numbers, and this year people have to step up. I am definitely up to the challenge. It will be a lot of fun. I have always been able to shoot, so I will shoot a little bit more from the outside this year.”

Henton on what he worked on during the off season: “I worked on my ball handling a lot. That was my main focus, to create my own shot with the ball. I put on a lot of time in and the coaching staff has been working with me on this.”
