Projo: Bullock’s Knee Being Evaluated

It wouldn’t be a PC preseason without questions regarding who will suit up once the season rolls around. As Providence waits to hear if impressive freshman Ben Bentil will be deemed eligible by the NCAA’s Clearinghouse, the Friars could potentially be without another crucial piece for the foreseeable future.

The Providence Journal’s Kevin McNamara reported that redshirt freshman Rodney Bullock injured his knee this week at practice and “may be unavailable for quite some time.”

From McNamara’s article:

PROVIDENCE – It looks like Providence College basketball fans will have to wait even longer to get a chance to see forward Rodney Bullock on the court.

Bullock, a second-year forward from Virginia, injured his knee in practice earlier this week and may be unavailable for quite some time. PC coach Ed Cooley confirmed that Bullock is injured but said further tests will reveal if the injury is a season-ending blow.

“The news isn’t good but we’re trying to get through a couple more tests and see what happens,” Cooley said. “We’re evaluating to see just how bad it is.”

Asked if he knows if Bullock could be lost for the upcoming season, Cooley said “no, not yet.”

Hearing the eternally optimistic Cooley use terms like “we’re evaluating to see just how bad it is” and “the news isn’t good” is cause for alarm.

The head coach must be feeling snake bitten. In each of his four seasons at Providence he’s lost at least one member of his rotation by early November because of injury, ineligibility or suspension.

The buzz around Bullock grew this summer after he put up monstrous stat lines in Italy, while Bentil is considered by many to be the member of the class of 2014 most ready to handle the rigors of the Big East.

Once again, Friartown is left holding its breath.
