This weekend the Providence Fullcourt Boardroom (PFB) is holding their third annual “PFB Summer Weekend of the Stars” in Providence.

The group is headed by a pair of PC graduates, three time NBA champion Dickey Simpkins and 1984 Providence grad Sean Holley. Simpkins was inducted into Providence’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013 and both Simpkins and Holley were among a group of former Friars inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in June 2013.

The organization was formed to support former PC basketball players and help connect them with the Providence community and head coach Ed Cooley, but they also aim to have an impact in the city of Providence.

“PFB is about making a positive difference in the Greater Providence community and beyond,” said Simpkins in a release from the group. “PFB’s primary focus is on the best interest of the former PC basketball players and ensuring that we are connected. We are a team that will remain bonded together.”

While the PFB is holding social events for former players throughout the weekend, the group is also hosting a community event at Corliss Park in Providence on Saturday afternoon (11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and hopes to provide networking opportunities as well.

PFB has “a full slate of events for the weekend.” For more information, see the group’s Facebook page.

From the group’s press release:

“I want to thank the Providence Fullcourt Boardroom for including my business, Teecil, for the second straight year. Being a young Providence alumni, having the support of other alums, most notably Dickey Simpkins and Sean Holley, has allowed my business to grow and been a great networking resource. The PFB has supported me since the day I started my business and given me exposure, support, and advice that I would not have been able to get anywhere else. I am very thankful the PFB included my business and look forward to working with them again this year.”

– Stephen Squillante, Owner of Teecil

“Dickey and Sean…ROUND OF APPLAUSE…Beyond a shadow of a doubt this year’s PFB event was a great success, from the meet and greet to the fundraising events and our very last social event at Vanity, it was obvious to the Alumni who attended that you guys put great time and effort into making this event a big success. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you guys for the wonderful camaraderie, as well as for all the time and effort that you routinely put into coordinating such a great weekend social event.”

Andrea Mangum Robinson, Providence Women’s Basketball, class of 1990

“I was born and raised a Friar fan. From Alumni Hall with Joe Mullaney, Vinnie Ernst, John Thompson, and Jimmy Walker, to the Civic Center with Ernie DiGregorio, Ricky Tucker, Billy Donovan, Otis Thorpe, and now the Dunk with Ed Cooley. When I got a chance to help out PFB, I jumped at the opportunity to give back to the Friars and the community for all of the exciting times they have given to me. PFB is a wonderful organization that brings back the Friars to help our Providence community.  I am proud to be a member and happy to support the efforts.  This organization gives back to the community.  I am very happy to be a part of it.”

– Ken Hopkins, former Head Baseball Coach/PC, and current Head Baseball Coach/CCRI
