Recruiting Rankings for August 7

There has been a lot of movement since our last round of rankings, with prospects like Jarred Reuter and Terance Mann off of the board. Lists are starting to get narrowed down and Friar fans are ready to see who pops first in 2015.

Kevin Farrahar’s Recruiting Rankings for August 7:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy (NH), 6’3 combo guard, class of 2015: Down the stretch we come. What else is there to be said at this point? Ed Cooley and staff have thrown everything at Mitchell and now we wait to see how his visits to Villanova and Louisville impacted his recruitment.

2. Alex Ownes, Oak Ridge High School (FL), 6’8 PF class of 2015: Owens is a name that started widely popping up just two weeks ago and now he’s down to a final three with PC included. The Friars have reportedly been recruiting him for a year. Eligibility a concern? The Orlando Sentinel reported he was academically ineligible as a freshman.

3. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy (TN), 6’6 SF, class of 2016: Kansas and Missouri both recently offered, and he’s seeing interest from Louisville, North Carolina and Ohio State.

4. Jared Wilson-Frame, Believe Prep, 6’4 SG, class of 2015: I’m adding Wilson-Frame, who the Providence staff has monitored for the past two years. Providence is one of a handful of schools this powerful guard is currently considering.

5. Justin Robinson, Manassas, VA, 6’1 PG, class of 2015: The Boo Williams product is considered one of the top 15-20 lead guards in the class of 2015. He’s down to six schools and Providence is one of them.

6. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School (MA), 6’5 SF, class of 2017: While all of the summer attention is focused on the upperclassmen, look for Samuels to explode once the prep season kicks off again.

7. Curtis Cobb, Wilbraham & Monson (MA), 6’4 SG, class of 2015: Video of the all around offensive ability of the Massachusetts native. Impressive.

8. Kenny Williams, Chesterfield, VA, class of 2015: The top 100 guard out of Virginia is down to seven and the Friars made the cut here as well. Big time competition exists with North Carolina, Georgetown, Indiana VCU and more.

Craig Leighton’s Recruiting Rankings for August 7:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy (NH), 6’3 SG, class of 2015: It is crunch time for the recruitment of Mitchell as he has cut his list down to five schools and is currently on an official visit to Louisville. If he comes back from the visit with the Cardinals and Rick Pitino still uncommitted I like PC’s chances.

2. Alex Ownes, Oak Ridge High School (FL), 6’8 PF class of 2015: Alex surprised many PC fans last week when he included the Friars on his final list of three schools along with UCF and Missouri. At 6’8 and 235 pounds Owens is a very athletic power player who also has great passing ability from the post. Here are some highlights of Alex in action:

3. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy (TN), 6’6 SF, class of 2016: Braxton continues to mention that Providence is one of the schools he wants to visit this summer. After a very productive AAU season Blackwell has picked up major interest from the blue blood schools such as Kansas and North Carolina.

4. Justin Robinson, Manassas, VA, 6’1 PG, class of 2015: One of the best point guards in the 2015 class Justin came out with his final list of six schools which includes the Friars. ESPN currently ranks Robinson as the 14th best point guard in the class of 2015.

5. Jared Wilson-Frame, Believe Prep, 6’5 SG, class of 2015: Jared  had a very nice summer with his Expressions Ellite AAU team and has recently said that the Friars are one of the schools that he remains most interested in.

6. Kenny Williams, Chesterfield (VA), 6’3 SG, class of 2015: Kenny recently came out with his final list of seven schools which included PC among others. He is currently ranked 83rd in the class of 2015 by ESPN.

7. Bruce Brown, 6’3 PG-SG, Vermont Academy,  class of 2016: Bruce had a very good summer with BABC and is currently ranked 30th in the class of 2016 by ESPN. He has expressed an interest in visiting PC and hopefully will be one of the players attending PC’s Elite Camp this weekend.

8. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School (MA), 6’6 SF, class of 2017: Jermaine has one of the biggest upsides of anyone in the class of 2017. He is currently ranked 23rd nationally in the class of 2017 by ESPN.
