July 11 Recruiting Rankings

RickyCouncil

Every week Craig Leighton and Kevin Farrahar will post their PC-specific recruiting power rankings, listing their top eight Friar targets. Unlike national rankings, we will rank players based on not only upside, but the fit at Providence, the need, and the likelihood of these prospects ending up at PC.

Kevin Farrahar’s Elite 8 for July 11, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, 6’3 combo guard, class of 2015: Let’s not panic yet. Louisville and Memphis offered this week after seeing Mitchell early in the live period. This is what comes with top 75 players. The Cards made a late push for Kris Dunn in July before he pledged to PC in late-August. Can history repeat itself?

2. Terance Mann, Tilton School, 6’5 SG/SF, class of 2015: Lebron James Skills Academy this week and the Peach Jam the following for this PC target who was recently linked to PC. He’s hearing from Florida State, Arizona State, Wake Forest, Marquette, BC, Creighton and Texas Tech. Guys at 247 have him as a Boston College lean.

3. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, 6’6 SF, class of 2016: Blackwell says he isn’t close to listing his favorites, but he’s being pursued the hardest by Providence, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Memphis and Tennessee.

4. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, 6’5 SF, class of 2017: As a member of the class of 2017, he’s not an immediate need, but his stock could see a nice bump this month.

5. Alex Illikainen, Grand Rapids (MN), 6’9 PF, class of 2015: Skilled forward would be a solid complement to Paschal Chukwu and Ben Bentil in 15 months. Busy two week span coming for him, with plenty of opportunity to see his recruitment take off further.

6. Jarred Reuter, 6’8 PF, Brewster Academy, class of 2015: Reuter just seems to put up solid efforts against good competition. A good showing in Philly this week has led to his latest offer — this one from Iowa. 247‘s Jerry Meyer said this week’s showing will lead to a rise in the rankings.

7. Steven Enoch, Norwalk High School, 6’9 PF, class of 2015: Both Providence and UConn were reportedly tracking Enoch as the live period kicked off. Amazing how quickly his stock, and more importantly, his game, have grown.

8. Tomas Murphy, 6’9 PF, Northfield Mount Hermon, class of 2017: Murphy received high praise for his game at the Reebok Breakout this week. A lot of skill, and a lot of length for a 2017 prospect.

Craig Leighton’s Elite 8 for July 11, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, 6’3 SG, class of 2015: After the first day of the July live period, Mitchell received new offers from Louisville and Memphis. He said he would like to visit Louisville and that he will also be cutting down his list of schools at the end of August. The Friar coaching staff continues to closely follow Mitchell during the live period and will not be outworked for their number one target in the class of 2015.

2. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, 6’6 SF, class of 2016: Look for Braxton at several of the Adidas events playing for the Atlanta Celtics during the live period. Someone from the Friar staff will be attending most, if not all, of his games.

3Alex Illikainen, Grand Rapids (MN), 6’9 PF, class of 2015: Alex will be in Chicago playing for Howard Pulley later this week. Illikainen, who will be at the Peach Jam next week, may be the Friars’ top frontcourt recruit in the 2015 class.

4. Terance Mann, The Tilton School, 6’6 SF, class of 2015: Mann may be one of the Friars’ most interesting recruits heading into the July live period. Originally considered a Georgetown lock, Mann’s recruitment has changed direction and the Friars are now seriously involved. Terance, who recently moved to Rhode Island with his family, will be playing with BABC in the Peach Jam next week.

5. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, class of 2017: Look for Jermaine to take the next step during the July live period and solidify himself as one of the top 15-20 players in the country for the 2015 class.

6. Steven Enoch, Norwalk High School, 6’9 PF, class of 2015: The Friar staff has been closely following Steven during the first two days of the Reebok Breakout Classic in Philadelphia and he will continue to be one of the Friars’ key targets this summer.

7. Tomas Murphy, 6’9 PF, Northfield Mount Hermon, class of 2017: The PC Staff has been spotted at Murphy’s games during the Reebok Breakout Classic as well. Look for them to show up wherever he plays during the July live period.

8. Prince Ali, 6’8 PF, The Sagemont School (FL), class of 2015: Prince is participating in the Lebron James Skills Academy this week. Friar fans will find out how involved the PC staff is by how closely they follow Prince this July.
