5 Takeaways from NERR Elite 75 Rankings

The New England Recruiting Report debuted a new feature this week, ranking the top 75 players in New England regardless of prospects’ graduating class. These rankings are meant to take a long-term look at New England recruits — determining who will ultimately make the biggest impact in college, and eventually, the NBA. The rankings include prospects from the 2014-2017 classes.

Here are some takeaways:

  1. The top prospect, Isaac Copeland of Brewster Academy, is headed to a Big East school (Georgetown). Of the top ten players in the region, three are undergrads (Tomas Murphy, Jalen Adams, Jermaine Samuels), three are committed to the ACC (Abdul-Malik Abu/NC State, Mustapha Heron/Pittsburgh, Kaleb Joseph/Syracuse), while two are Big East bound.
  2. The second Big East player in the top ten is none other than incoming Providence center Paschal Chukwu. Chukwu is ranked 8th, behind Joseph at 7 and just ahead of UCLA-bound Jonah Bolden.
  3. 2017 has serious superstar potential. We’ve raved about Jermaine Samuels, who is ranked 10th — ahead of Tyler Lydon (2015 Syracuse commit), Devonte Graham (2014, Kansas) and many other high level players — while Tomas Murphy, the third of the Rhode Island Murphy brothers, is ranked 2nd overall. The top five includes Copeland, Murphy, Jalen Adams (#3), Goodluck Okonoboh (#4) and Abu (#5).
  4. The depth of talent in New England is once again impressive. Bruce Brown was recently ranked 30th in the class of 2016 by ESPN, and is ranked 14th in New England, while Jared Terrell is a top 70 recruit in 2014 by most services and is rated 23rd here. High major players like Bonzie Colson (Notre Dame) and Tory Miller are ranked in the 30s, Purdue commit Jacquil Taylor is #49, while Michigan pledge Aubrey Dawkins is 55th.
  5. Looking for other PC recruits? Donovan Mitchell (20), Aaron Falzon (28), Jarred Reuter (29), Steve Enoch (30), Curtis Cobb (38), and Jeremy Miller (39) all crack the top 40.
