Friar Basketball

Recruiting Rankings: June 12

Chambers

Every week Craig Leighton and Kevin Farrahar will post their PC-specific recruiting power rankings, listing their top eight Friar targets. Unlike national rankings, we will rank players based on not only upside, but the fit at Providence, the need, and the likelihood of these prospects ending up at PC.

Kevin Farrahar’s Elite 8 for June 12, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, 6’3, class of 2015: It’s getting awfully crowded in here. Indiana, Oklahoma and Florida State are the latest to offer Mitchell, who is set to visit PC by the end of the month.

2.. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, 6’6, class of 2016: It’s just as crowded here. Ohio State, Cal and Ole Miss have offered Blackwell.

3. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, 6’5, class of 2017: Samuels is in ESPN’s top 25 for the class of 2017 and he’s at the Nike Top 100 camp in St. Louis this week. A talent like this couldn’t stay a secret for long.

4. Tyree Chambers, Bayreuth (Germany), 6’3, class of 2014: On to the next one. The German guard was on campus recently. Someone has to bite after Graham, Terrell, Austin and, most recently, Antoine Mason decided to go elsewhere. Aren’t guards supposed to be the easiest to get?

5. Steve Enoch, Norwalk High School, 6’9, class of 2015: After receiving offers from UConn and Kansas State earlier this month, Enoch has added Arizona State as well. Reportedly visited Boston College over the weekend. BC’s staff is far busier than they have been in years.

6. Alex Illikainen, Grand Rapids (MN), 6’9, class of 2015: Picked up an offer from Boston College (there they are again) and visited Creighton and Nebraska over the weekend. Side note: had no idea how much Creighton and Nebraska fans disliked each other until visiting Omaha this season. Ugly. Here’s Craig’s Closer Look on Alex.

7. Miles Bridges, Huntington Prep,  6’7, class of 2016: Bridges is with Samuels in St. Louis, and he got an offer from… Boston College.

8. Naadir Tharpe, Kansas transfer, 6’1: Been resisting the temptation to include Tharpe here, but pickings are slim in mid-June. Cooley said he wants a point guard. Do they pull the trigger here?

Craig Leighton’s Elite 8 for June 12, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, 6’3 SG, class of 2015: Donovan continues to receive offers from High Major programs. Mitchell has indicated that he will visit the PC campus before the start of July Live evaluation period.

2. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, 6’6 SF, class of 2016: The Friars no. 1 target in the class of 2016 gains more notoriety every week. He is now ranked no. 25 nationally in the 2016 class by ESPN.

3. Tramaine Isabell, Garfield High School, 6’1 PG, class of 2014: With Antoine Mason committing to Auburn Tremaine becomes the Friars no. 1 recruiting target for 2014. He is down to Missouri and Providence and has already set up a visit to Missouri. Hopefully the Friars can get him on campus right after Cooley gets back from his participation with the U18 National Team.

4. Jalen Adams, Cushing Academy, 6’2 PG, class of 2015: Jalen moved up to no. 1 in the 2015 New England rankings according to NERR. He also moved up to no. 33 nationally according to ESPN.

5. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, 6’5, class of 2017: Jermaine is the no. 2 ranked player in New England for the class of 2017 according to NERR and should be one of the highest priorities for the PC staff going forward.

6. Tyree Chambers, Bayreuth (Germany), 6’3 SG, class of 2014: The 6’3 shooting guard from Germany visited the PC campus two weeks ago and becomes a high priority in the class of 2014 with commitment of Antoine Mason to Auburn.

7. Steven Enoch, Norwalk High School, 6’9 PF, class of 2015: Steven is really starting to be recognized by the national media and I would expect him to be in everyone’s top 100 list by the end of the July evaluation period. Enoch cracked the NERR top 10 list in New England at no. 9 and is currently the top ranked player in Connecticut for the 2015 class.

8. Alex Illikainen, Grand Rapids (MN), 6’9 PF, class of 2015: As Alex’s sister is a junior on the PC Women’s hockey team it will be very important to see if the PC coaching staff can get Alex and his family on campus for a visit during the course of the summer.
