Report: Donovan Mitchell to Visit
- Updated: June 8, 2014
According to Adam Zagoria of SNY, Brewster Academy guard Donovan Mitchell will visit Providence in late-June. Mitchell has long been a priority of Ed Cooley and his staff and is very familiar with the Providence campus.
He shined during the first Providence Elite Camp in the summer between his freshman and sophomore year (both he and incoming PC freshman Paschal Chukwu were under the radar talents at the time). Mitchell returned to Providence for the camp a year later and stayed throughout the weekend — one which included a visit from Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson.
Mitchell has seen a bump in the national rankings of late (ESPN has him #74), but perhaps not the dramatic climb of others because he plays for a relatively new AAU program in The City. He was one of the top performers at the Pittsburgh Jamfest and received praised throughout the spring for an improved jump shot — a skill that would make him a handful at the next level when combined with his handle and athleticism.
Going under the radar isn’t a problem once the high school season starts. Mitchell was terrific in his first year at powerhouse Brewster Academy (NH), winning both the NEPSAC AAA Championship and coming out on top at the eight team Prep National Title in March. He was the MVP of the NEPSAC Championship against rival New Hampton.
Mitchell has been at the top of our Recruiting Rankings for over a month now. He’ll also visit Georgia Tech and Boston College this month.
