Elite 8 Recruiting Rankings: May 15

MilesBridges

Every week Craig Leighton and Kevin Farrahar will post their PC-specific recruiting power rankings, listing their top eight Friar targets. Unlike national rankings, we will rank players based on not only upside, but the fit at Providence, the need, and the likelihood of these prospects ending up at PC.

We’re currently in the midst of a busy AAU period, with the Providence Jamfest wrapping up last weekend and the third leg of EYBL action set for this weekend.

Kevin Farrahar’s Elite 8 for May 15, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, class of 2015: No mention of Providence in an article by Adam Zagoria this week is no red flag. Mitchell told Zags he will visit Boston College, St. John’s, Creighton and others this summer.

2. Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, class of 2016: Blackwell told Baller Bridge that he hopes to visit Providence, North Carolina and Florida this summer. Drew comparisons at a recent AAU event to Otto Porter.

3. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, class of 2017: Future150.com is already calling Samuels a top 15 prospect in his class.

4. Jalen Adams, Cushing Academy, class of 2015: Adams told the Basketball Diary that Providence is still on his list. Louisville and Carolina are expressing interest, while AAU coach Vin Pastore downplayed the thought that Adams to UConn was a done deal when talking to 247 sports recently. A potential backcourt logjam in Storrs a concern.

5. Jarred Reuter, Brewster Academy, class of 2015: Kansas State has come calling. Our Craig Leighton called him “unstoppable down low” at last weekend’s Providence Jamfest for the NE Playaz.

6. Miles Bridges, Huntington Prep, class of 2016: Youngster stepped up at EYBL Dallas, averaging 17 and 7. Bridges had three straight 20+ point games in EYBL action.

7. Bruce Brown, Vermont Academy, class of 2017: Loved Brown from the first time I saw him. Makes his debut in this week’s rankings due to Larry Austin’s commitment to Xavier and a 28 point explosion versus King James at the EYBL. Tough, tough guard from Massachusetts.

8. Naadir Tharpe, Kansas transfer: Not sure if I’m buying Tharpe coming to Providence just yet.

Craig Leighton’s Elite 8 for May 15, 2014:

1. Donovan Mitchell, Brewster Academy, class of 2015: Mitchell remains PC’s #1 recruiting target in 2015. Expect him to visit PC during the summer, despite reports to the contrary. Right at the top of Cooley’s list.

2Braxton Blackwell, Christ Presbyterian Academy, class of 2016: Getting Blackwell on campus this summer will be huge. Has a great relationship with Cooley and I think the Friars will be in it to the end with him.

3. Jalen Adams, Cushing Academy, class of 2015Adams continues to impress each and every time I see him. Was the best player at the Providence Jamfest. Prediction here: he winds up a top 15 player in the country.

4. Jarred Reuter, Brewster Academy, class of 2015A beast underneath at the Providence Jamfest. If he continues to get into better shape he’s going to be a force at the next level.

5. Jermaine Samuels, Rivers School, class of 2017: Remains one of the top 3 prospects in New England in 2017. Should be a priority in the coming years.

6. Montaque Gil-Caesar, Huntington Prep, class of 2015: Here’s hoping Jalen Lindsey’s connections with Blackwell and this rising two guard pay off for Providence.

7. Jerome Desrosiers, Northfield Mount Hermon, class of 2017: New to the list, Jerome was great at the Providence Jamfest this weekend, playing both inside and out. He will be one of the top players in New England’s class of 2017.

8. Jeremy Miller, New Hampton, class of 2015: Recent de-commitment from BC, it will be interesting to see if the Friars recruit the 2015 inside/out power forward.

Others to Watch:

Mamadou Diarra, Putnam Science Academy, class of 2015

Curtis Cobb, Wilbraham & Monson, class of 2015

Tomas Murphy, Prout High School, class of 2017

Aaron Falzon, Northfield Mount Hermon, class of 2015

Josh Langford, Madison Academy, class of 2016

Terrell Brown, St. Andrew’s Academy, class of 2016

Malik Beasley, St. Francis (GA), class of 2015

Featured Recruit of the Week: Braxton Blackwell
